Commercial Description:
Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a very large white head. Aroma is great with lots of musty funk but some piney hop follows. Flavor is again musty with some citrus hops with some funk. Very prickly carbonation tingle the tounge as this goes down. Not outstanding but deffinatly good. Saison lovers would really dig this.

(750ml bottle, courtesy of blutt59) Pours a hazy golden body with a rocky off-white head. Aroma of florals, grass, citrus, biscuit, and some herbs. Flavor of mild grassy hops, Belgian yeast, pepper, light cracker, and spices with a dry finish.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Hazy golden luminous beer with a thick white head. Aroma is sweet and spicy. Fruity apricot/pear and peach with a nice spicy hoppy/zesty aroma. A little bit herbal and spicy aroma over a sweet Belgian malt character. Light bubble gum sweetness. Initially there is a bit of astringency and harshness but this softens considerably as it warms. Soft Saaz herbal bitterness. It’s a decent beer, but it doesn’t really approach the heights that this style can do.

Bottle, 8% at ÅBF08. Wet hop aroma. Pale golden colour. Big white head, bubbly and plasticky. Quite hoppy flavour, bitter and freshly hoppy. Actually gets a bit sour from the hops. 6 3 6 3 15

Lots of perfume in the aroma. Light. Much lighter than I expected. Not overtly hoppy. Spicey.

Pale malt sweetness and robust continental hoppiness with some really surprisngly fruity and spicy Belgian yeast esters. This beer hides it’s big abv pretty well. Very nicely done.
