Commercial Description:
Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma.

Bottle. Pale golden color with a gigantic whitish head. Spicy, slight estery aroma. Very spicy, slight earthy, light floral flavor. Lots of hops and actually a bit of bitterness. Medium body. Bitterness lingers with a bit of honey malt sweetness and some earth and floral notes. Not bad. Wasn’t expecting that much hoppiness.

Bottle @ the soon to be renamed Abbot on the Hill. Aroma of floral hops, citrus, malt and yeast, hazy yellow, small firm white head, leaves some pretty lace, Flavour is a fine malt, tasty lemon and a little yeast. Light bodied, very well balanced, quite refreshing considering the abv. Terrific!

The commerical description pretty much summerizes this beer. Much hoppier finish than most Belgians and flavors are dominated by hops. Not overly brash or complex, but straight forward and enjoyable.

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Soft golden amber pour. Tall fluffy white head. Nose is very perfumy and floral with strong spicy and yeast notes. Lots of hops notes in the aroma. The hops continue from the first sip to the last. More yeast and spice notes here as well. Bitter but not extreme. Some fruit coming through other than citrus. Soft melon, hints of pear and some candied notes. There’s some herbal, almost minty like flavors in spots as well. Body is strongly carbonated and very bubbly. Bordering on creamy bit the bubbles have too much of an impact. Overall feel is leaning towards medium. Ends with more floral hops, strong citrus, Belgian yeast, grains, dried fruit, candy, and spices. Tasty!

750 ml. corked and caged bottle. No freshness date seen. Loud pop releases cork. Poured out a hazy yellow color, with a persistent white head. Slightly over-carbonated. Aromas are of fresh cut straw, earthy hops, sweet malts. Flavors are sweet malts, noble hops, sweet yeasty bread. Medium mouthfeel, very lively on the tongue. Finished somewhat dry.

Shared with Jason and Dave, this beer was interesting. It’s like a pilsener with those hops and like a Belgian ale with the malt and yeast. Reminds me of a European Strong Lager but it’s an ale. Spicy hops and yeasts.

Bottled 33cl. It pours a pale hazy golden beer with a huge mountainous, nicely lasting lacing white head. The nose is reminiscent of a hoppy tripel. Good bitterness in the taste. Nice hop profile. Peppery (especially on the slallow) with hints of white bread and melon. Yeasty. Dry hoppy finish. Indeed, very similar to a hop accentuated tripel in my opinion. Interesting and rather nice.
