Commercial Description:
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

Dark cloudy brown with some white head. Great aroma of choclate and spice, vanilla, and citrus orange. Very smooth mouthfeel, and while all of the tastes do not materialize boldy, it is very tasty and refreshing.A great brewery. thanks for bringing in IPFreely.

On tap. Dark brown beer, beige head. Aroma of candy, christmas spice, malts. Flavour is very sweet, a bit sour, christmas spice (speculaas), roasted malts. Again, like most of their beers, way too sweet for me.

Bottle. Deep brown pour with a minor head. This beer was not what I was expecting at all. Pine and juniper dance around the malt-sweet and charcoal aroma. Big, lightly sweet malts in the flavor are unctuous but extremely drinkable, with a fast, tobacco and floral finish. Definitely the most drinkable 10.5% alcohol beer I’ve ever had. Well done.

On tap at O’Briens. Deep burgundy color, fading wispy head with some bubbles. Becomes still after sipping for a while. Very sweet aroma of candy sugar, raisin, rum and a restrained bubblegum note. Toffee, cherry and grape flavors meld with some medium caramel. Ends sugary with a red wine character. Quite alcoholic. Becomes a bit difficult to drink. Somewhat unbalanced.

750 ml bottle with Paul July 08’. Deep brown amber pour with beige head that falls slowly. Sweet candi sugar and licorice nose. Christmas pudding and rum rasin. Tight small bubbles on the carb. Beautiful well balanced beer. Paal loved it.
