truegen (138), Puyallup, Washington, USA Dec 25, 2007 11.2 oz. bottle. Attractive red-brown color. Active head on pour, but receded fairly quickly. Nose is of brandied fruit with hints of maple and honey. The alcoholic fruit character is full on the tongue, slightly touched with anise and molasses. The alcohol is almost medicinal, not in the best way. I’ve another bottle, and I think I’ll cellar it for next Christmas. Let’s see how it does.
BuckeyeBoy (1209), Boise, Idaho, USA Dec 1, 2008 First off WOW On tap at The Front Door Boise, Pours out a dark red topped with a tan head. Aroma was GREAT all sorts of sweetness. Pitfruit, caramel, and spice. Tast was just as good as the aroma. Sweet and spice. This is my kind of winter brew. DeadGuyFrank (347), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA Nov 29, 2008 Dark ruby, slight sweetness, lots of ripe berries and just a touch of spice. A definite winter beer, hearty and warm, not for the faint hearted or those who don’t like Samicluas or other strong, strong ales. Not my favorite Xmas beer, but good. SamGamgee (646), Isla Vista, California, USA Nov 29, 2008 Draught at the Red. Dark brown with a big tan head. The aroma has dark caramel, cherries, and silky nutty vanilla, accompanied by spicy yeast. Dark fruity flavors, with molasses, light tart fruit, banana, and some spicy additions. Rather sweet and malty, though cleaned up by alcohol and dusty spice. Full bodied with smooth carbonation. Quite an elegant sipper for the holidays. Not quite magical, but solid. Travlr (115), Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 26, 2008 Dark reddish brown w/ thick white head.
