TAR (2088), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA Aug 19, 2008 Golden straw. Voluminous white head smatters intricate lacework all over the glass. Lovely aromas of pineapple, pear, honeydew, lime peels, airy phenols, peppery hops, and candy sugar intermingle with hints of licorice, bubblegum, and sweet vanilla-cake maltiness. Quite vibrant and complex. Firm effervescence tickles the palate. Succulent yet dry with an explosion of fresh oranges and pineapple combined with a savory tandem of herbal and floral hops. Malts are clean and pillowy, and the combination of puttylike yeast and tropical fruit esters adds to the soft feel and uplifting nature despite the high alcohol. Hops continue to contribute their zesty sparkle while evoking thoughts of aniseed and lime peels as they tease the tongue with a pleasantly tight and refined bitterness. Rich wafery malts bolster the body’s core with a well-textured softness which echoes the faint candy sugar remnants. Zingy alcohol complements the peppery hops and neutralizes some of the sweetness before warming the gullet. Bright tangerine is sandwiched between the zippy dryness and sugary malts at the finish, before a seamless transition to feisty lingering snippets of coriander, snappy phenols, and herbal hops. This has always been a solid beer, but I especially like this particular bottling with all its cohesiveness and interesting yeast- and high-fermentation-derived nuance. Borresteijn (1349), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 18, 2008 On tap. Hazy golden colour, thick creamy white head. Aroma of sour fruits, malts, yeast, sugar. Flavour is dense, sweet, malty, some yeast, very fruity. Sweet-sour finish with a hint of alcohol bitterness. Very nice. Bullit (1300), Glasgow, Scotland Aug 13, 2008 Golden colour, huge white head. Aroma has citrus and some spices. Flavour is fruity and malty. Medium bodied. Sweet finish. Naka (524), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 13, 2008 On tap at Sharp Edge. Pours a hazy honey orange color with a thick frothy head that left some really nice lacing. The aroma was yeasty with some peaches, citrus, and a lot of overall fruitiness. The flavor was very fruity too. Some cooking bread alcohol flavors with mangoes, ginger, and candy. A very sweet tripel. Not much bitterness or hop character at all. A medium body with a kind of milky texture. Decent, but not my favorite tripel. timbeer (45), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Aug 11, 2008 750 ml bottle, lightly chilled served in a chalice glass.
Snow white, rocky and thick head that had plenty of ability to cling to the class. Clear, light golden hue with high carbonation - lots of tiny bubbles. Aroma reminds me of spicy, clovey, sweet and earthy tones, light hoppiness.
Smooth but sharpness on the cheeks from the high carbo - warming and light, mildly bitter finish. Not my favorite but a very nice beer TheEpeeist (1430), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 10, 2008 11.2 oz bottle. A surprise mini-gusher right out of the fridge. Lost a bit before hitting the glass. Clearish bronze straw with a huge, whipped white head that leaves copious speckles and swirls. Nose is yeast, dough, lemon-pepper and roses. Medium light, oily, with soft carb. Taste is lemon peel, honey, green olive and ginger with a dry, bready finish. FortyFirkins (25), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bomber. Poured light golden with a massive white head that left plenty of lacing. Aroma of apples and oranges with a clove spice punch. Tasted was spicier than expected, with a spot of bitterness quickly masked in the sweet finish. Not at the top of my list of Tripples, but definitely a beer that grew on me with the second pour. gilvanblight (390), Windsor, Ontario, Canada Aug 8, 2008 Really nice hazy orange pour with a really thick and sticky head. Nice citrusy scent. A definately tripple, and a good one. Spicy citrusy and warm. I found it a bit overcarbonated but it’s a minor complaint.
