iep (229), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jun 1, 2007 Dark golden body, somewhat hazy, with a very persistent dense head and good lacing. Bready, floral and sweet aroma with vanilla, honey, coriander, white pepper, some alcohol and a strong grainyness. Good malt-profile in the taste, quite heavy on the sweetness, with some light spicy (Saaz) hoppiness to balance it out. Pleasant tartness from the yeast. Long, bready finish. Quite lively on the palate, but not overly so. A very solid tripel. Egon (392), Gothenburg, Sweden May 24, 2007 Part of a bottle. Golden. A bit fruity and bitter. The version on tap is better. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada May 21, 2007 750 mL bottle via Lubiere, served cool in a tulip glass. MA19/07
App.: Cloudy deep golden, fair off-white head, generous lacing.
Aroma: Very sweet, candi sugar, some dried fruits, peaches and apricots, some molasses and brown sugar; a little honey and alcohol. Yummy.
Palate: Syrupy, medium bodied, mildly effervescent carbonation.
Flav.: Salty-sweet, honey, floral, peaches and other fruits; more brown sugar and candied fruits, some yeastiness; restrained bitterness, a little warming alcohol, definitely mouth-coating. I get some cardboard too…can it be?? And brown (oxidized) apples.
JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA May 13, 2007 Another winner from this brewery, albeit one that’s not quite at the level of the Grand Cru (or possibly even of the underrated Ambrio). It’s got all the qualities I look for in a tripel - rich flavor of sweet malt and tart fruit, slight heat - but is simply a bit too thin on the mouthfeel. That aside, it’s more than solid and I’ll return to it again. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 12, 2007 Bottle. Hazy golden body with a big billowy white head. Sweet boozy aroma is yeasty with light sweet lemon notes that are intriguing. Ephemeral notes of banana. Flavour of sweet pale malt, dry alcohol, fruity esters and light sweet lemon. (7+) Average to medium palate. Interesting but it is not my favourite triple ever. skibumphishead (180), USA May 10, 2007 750 from Town and Country Liquors. The first aroma is spicy cinnamon, pepper alcohol and fruit. The strong alcohol flavor comes out as it warms. The finish is sweet and citrusy. I’ve only had 2 from this brewery... they have both been great. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA May 7, 2007 Spice: anise, black pepper, citrus peel, and... curry?
Alcohol rounds off the beer, ending with a let off in the flavor the department, but works well with the dominate spicy tastes. Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA May 5, 2007 Bottle: Big yeasty aroma wiht moderate banana, apple, spice, pepper, and a hint of alcohol. It pours a transparent golden-orange with a big creamy white head with great retention and a thick coating of lacing. The flavor starts with mdoerate apple, bubblegum, and light banana. The finish has very light flowery bitterness, light orange peel, and a hint of pepper. There is a very mild tartness in the background.
