DigitalMan (113), Idaho, USA Aug 3, 2009 Cloudy yellow-orange, thin white head. Aroma is very faint, hard to place. Flavor is deep, but with some bitterness. Pretty fizzy mouthfeel. Not my favorite tripel. DerBiermeister (500), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Jul 23, 2009 Smells of alcohol. Pours with the biggest head EVER seen by me. Seriously, 99% head or so. And I poured on the side of the glass. Crazy. Very carbonated. Very pleasant palate and flavour after the head dies down. Slightly floral? Malty, yeasty, and smooth. Well balanced. Nice. kassner (429), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2009 This was a nice representative of type. Nice if modest head, cloudy golden sweet but plenty of pear and other fruit flavbrs. Finishes well also. Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2009 This poured a cloudy golden yellow color with a big white head. Aroma was sweet, a big spicey and fruit notes but not much. Flavor was much better than aroma, mainly with hints of citrusy and light fruits. This didnt exactly strike me as close to the style, but as a beer it is very good stuff. beernbourbon (230), chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 12, 2009 Thanks to unclemike for this one. Pour is clear golden color with large rocky white head. Aroma is lighter than expected: light malt, marshmallow, light spice, and faint pepper. Flavor is much lighter than I expected. Very drinkable with flavors of light malt, floral notes, black pepper, and notes of clove. This is one of the most drinkable tripels I have ever had. Alcohol is not detectable. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jul 9, 2009 330ml bottle from a KW group private order. pours clear yellow with a small lingeing white head. aroma of pale malt and alcohol. the flavour is a touch sweet from the pale malt but the alcohol doesnt show in the taste. a really nice triple. beerlady (443), lucerne, Switzerland Jul 8, 2009 golden colored beer with a white head
smells fruity in a tutti-frutti-mix way, but some herbal hops are there too and some mango
tasts rather hoppy but malty too, alcohol seems to give perhaps a bit of some harshness, ome fruits are there too
aftertaste is like fruitpunch again, now, alcohol is warming but not harsh, hops
porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Jul 4, 2009 (750 ml bottle from 1828 Vintage House, cellared for 10 mos. after purchase) Pours hazy gold-amber with two fingers of off-white head. Aroma of light caramel and fruit, perhaps some spice. Mouthfeel is smooth, fairly soft, medium-full and somewhat sticky. Light, droopy, broken rings of lacing. Flavor of light caramel and fruit with some pepper towards finish. Starts out quite sweet but then turns almost sweet and sour as it warms. Slightly hot with a light bitter pinch in finish. Decent tripel but not my favorite Gouden Carolus so far.
