JK (2944), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Aug 28, 2005 Not as fruity, sweet, or complex as some others of the style, but still a very good beer. Substantial body. There is a thick white head that lasts so long I was getting impatient to drink the cloudy, dark orange beer. Powerful aroma of sweet fruit. Flavor is primarily sweet with a bit of the alcohol coming through. Sweet malt in the finish. This can’t stand up to Tripel Karmeliet but is vastly superior to Westmalle and many others. JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England Aug 26, 2005 Bottle. Hazy golden colour with a big white head. Fruity, floral and yeasty aroma. Taste is sweet, fruity, malty, spicey with a light and long bitter finish. Fairly high carbonation, with a foamy-ish mouthfeel. This is very nice. bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Aug 22, 2005 Updated: Aug 13, 2008Bottle. Light amber color with a big white head. Lots of yeast in aroma along with apple, banana, spice, and sweet malt. Sweet malt/candy sugar flavor with spice and lemon. High carbonation. Alcohol present. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Aug 19, 2005 THE BIG 500!!!sampled from 330ml bottle.pours a murky golden body with a HUGE white head.the head leaves layers of thick white web on the side of the trappist glass.after 5 minutes or so f letting the head sit,i took my first whiff.aroma was very crisp and contained apples, grapes, flowers, and a tiny bit of belgian yeast.the flavor was also full of apples, grapes, summer flowers, and some begian yeast.this is light, airy, but still full of flavor. radiomgb (1920), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Aug 14, 2005 Bottle. Murky yellow in colour, tall lasting white head, nice lace. The aroma was soapy, floral, with lots of candy sweetness and yeast. The flavour was very floral, lots of yeast, noticeable alcohol, apples and peaches. Dry mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes with a medium lingering bitterness. A young sample, perhaps this needs more time. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Jul 30, 2005 33 cl Botlle. Yeast in bottom. Golden colour with a fast disappearing head. Very delicate aroma, of some gym or candy. Big mouthful of malt, sweetness, spices and end up winery, what a great taste, a very good tripel. Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 29, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Fully golden, slightly hazy with a tall and frothy head. Yeast sediment. Very potent brew with a prominent, warming alcohol glow. Yeasty, spicy and very malty with a pronounced sweetness. Nice and wellmade Tripel. 050802 ALLOVATE (1126), Perth, Australia Jul 25, 2005 One of my favourite breweries and one of my favourite styles, so there may be a little bias in this rating. Happened to be a wonderful brew that seems to stand alone from this brewers big dark ales. Tasted from the bottle and poured into its own gold rimmed chalice, cool and not cold. A big dense and creamy white head formed atop a hazy orange-gold body. Head lasted the distance and left a web of lace down the glass. Intense, treacly sweet candi sugar nose with a strong balance of pears, apples and zesty oranges. Only a light amount of yeast and alcohol spice, peppery, was detectable and this came through long into drinking. In the mouth a blend of zesty fruity esters, prickly, medicinal and mellowing alcohol and yeast spice, and sweet candi and vanilla were amplified by the high carbonation that moved things along quickly. Light fresh herb flavours and leafy hops come in in the back and dry out with the alcohol to follow through to a long warming and reasonably smooth swallow. Light in body and filling in the stomach, this was a lovely beer, perfect for the winter, that came highly recommended by the boys at the Int’l beer shop, W. Leederville, and for that I thank them. Lovely!!! (33cL, BBE 01/07)
