Commercial Description:
In spite of modern brewing technology, this beer is brewed according to ancient traditions. It unites, now as in the past, the best products of our soil: rich barley and fine hops.. It's refined character, with a pure and rich taste, will captivate you. It is matured at length in cellar and bottle, and is guaranteed to be brewed only from pale malts. It is traditionally top-fermented and is 100% pure. The Gouden Carolus Triple has a unique colour and a full flavour due to its well-balanced hopping. To properly savour the Golden Carolus “Triple”, pour slowly in one movement leaving the yeast deposit in the bottle. This beer may be served cool but not chilled: 7-8°C is recommended. In 2002 this beer won the Gold Award in the World Beer Cup, San Diego, USA in the “Triple” category.

After the great cider purge of 2007, this one comes in at rating no. 1250. Bottle, corked and caged. Sweet aroma, yeasty with sugar and a touch of apple juice. Hazy golden with a beautiful white head, rocky and full. Taste is smooth and lightly crisp, yeast and light citrus blended well with light flowers and lighter apple juice. Spicy and a bit pushy, lots of heft from the alcohol without being overbearing. Ending acidity does wonders to balance out the sweetness. A really pleasant surprise - I wasn’t expecting this kind of monster!

Sweet floral aroma. Milky amber color with a beautiful fluffy white head. Candy sugar sweetness int he fore followed by some floral flavors and malt. Finishes very suddenly and leaves a lip smacking fruity malt aftertase.

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Thick and cloudy orange color with a white head. Aroma has lots of spices, malts, yeast and some citrus I believe. Flavor begins very sweet and malty with a nice and smooth flow all throughout the beer. Finish is very smooth and warming and it hides the alcohol until it gets pretty warm. Then you can taste the full 9%. I definitely knocked back a couple of these babies. Very tasty.

Golden straw. Voluminous white head smatters intricate lacework all over the glass. Lovely aromas of pineapple, pear, honeydew, lime peels, airy phenols, peppery hops, and candy sugar intermingle with hints of licorice, bubblegum, and sweet vanilla-cake maltiness. Quite vibrant and complex. Firm effervescence tickles the palate. Succulent yet dry with an explosion of fresh oranges and pineapple combined with a savory tandem of herbal and floral hops. Malts are clean and pillowy, and the combination of puttylike yeast and tropical fruit esters adds to the soft feel and uplifting nature despite the high alcohol. Hops continue to contribute their zesty sparkle while evoking thoughts of aniseed and lime peels as they tease the tongue with a pleasantly tight and refined bitterness. Rich wafery malts bolster the body’s core with a well-textured softness which echoes the faint candy sugar remnants. Zingy alcohol complements the peppery hops and neutralizes some of the sweetness before warming the gullet. Bright tangerine is sandwiched between the zippy dryness and sugary malts at the finish, before a seamless transition to feisty lingering snippets of coriander, snappy phenols, and herbal hops. This has always been a solid beer, but I especially like this particular bottling with all its cohesiveness and interesting yeast- and high-fermentation-derived nuance.
