A lot of aroma’s, a combination of caramel, fruits, like raisins. Also light spicy. A rich taste of banana, pine, honey and malt. It’s complex and balanced. A beer to enjoy on a nice summer day. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 31, 2008 Pours a hazy yellow color with a healthy white head. It foamed out of the bottle when I opened it, just like papajohn. It smells of apples, whiskey, caramel, spice, and apples, with a floral hint. The taste is very good with heavy caramel apple flavor and an alcohol presence that hints of whiskey. Good tripel. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA

Flavor is much the same with a big alcohol presence. Spicy and good. A nice triple. glkaiser (1171), Seattle, Washington, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 4, 2009 (750 ml bottle from 1828 Vintage House, cellared for 10 mos. after purchase) Pours hazy gold-amber with two fingers of off-white head. Aroma of light caramel and fruit, perhaps some spice. Mouthfeel is smooth, fairly soft, medium-full and somewhat sticky. Light, droopy, broken rings of lacing. Flavor of light caramel and fruit with some pepper towards finish. Starts out quite sweet but then turns almost sweet and sour as it warms. Slightly hot with a light bitter pinch in finish. Decent tripel but not my favorite Gouden Carolus so far. jcr (1153), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 15, 2009 750ml. Huge, frothy, white, lasting head with a hazy golden, orange body. Pleasant aroma of flowers, herbs, toasted grain, pineapple, alcohol, lemon, coriander along with a slight mustiness. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It fnishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Dry, peppery, alcoholic. Medium to full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Lively carbonation. A little alcoholic and It’s tastes are slightly disjointed, but overall a very nice tripel.
