Commercial Description:
In spite of modern brewing technology, this beer is brewed according to ancient traditions. It unites, now as in the past, the best products of our soil: rich barley and fine hops.. It's refined character, with a pure and rich taste, will captivate you. It is matured at length in cellar and bottle, and is guaranteed to be brewed only from pale malts. It is traditionally top-fermented and is 100% pure. The Gouden Carolus Triple has a unique colour and a full flavour due to its well-balanced hopping. To properly savour the Golden Carolus “Triple”, pour slowly in one movement leaving the yeast deposit in the bottle. This beer may be served cool but not chilled: 7-8°C is recommended. In 2002 this beer won the Gold Award in the World Beer Cup, San Diego, USA in the “Triple” category.

Corked bottle from Party Source. Poured hazy orange color with a huge frothy white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Complex spicy fruit and yeasty aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture and lively carbonation. Medium to heavy fruity sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate to long duration with a small alcohol bite. This is a good sweet beer.

Bottled. A blonde coloured beer with a nice large white head and good lacing. The aroma is spicy, peppery and yeasty together with some yeasty fruit. The spicy hops and yeastiness continue into the taste together with a little lemon citricity. It’s alittle too thin for my liking but still quite decent.

Stewed apple with spices and a touch of banana in the flavour. Not as bitter/dry as many other tripels but the difference is what makes this such a good beer.

Cloudy golden with a lasting white head. Aroma is vineous with sherry, some exotic fruit and spicy yeast. Spicy and fruity flavour, rather dry with a slightly hoppy finish.

A hazy golden ale with a thick creamy white head. A pleasant aroma of juniper, candy sugar and warming alcohol. In mouth, a spicy savoury ale with coriander, cream, warming alcohol and almost coconut like notes. Very interesting. Bieropholie import, tasted around May 2007.

750mL bottle (new import labels, so presumably pretty fresh, although already starting to protein-break a little bit). Head is initially huge, frothy, white, fully lasting. Body is hazy medium to dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of dried pineapple, pepper, lemon zest, coriander, alcohol. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. A great example, but just a little short of awesome. The nits: seems to be spiced (which I’m not fond of in brews calling themselves tripels), it’s not dry enough, and the alcohol is a bit brash in the finish. Minor points, though, for a solid strong Belgian golden.

330 ml bottle. Thick, deep golden hazy color, smallishoff-white head. Big choco-caramel-banana aroma with loads of spiciness (cinnamon, white peppe); lovely vanilla late in the nose. Gorgeous! Really spicy on the tongue, as pointed out in the last review...luscious candied fruits, light alcohol, and a small herbal component. Medium to high carbonation, medium acidity, impressively balanced between the sugar and late acidic sourness. Another glorious concoction from the folks at Het Anker, not quite up to the d’Or or Kaiser, but still wonderful and necessary.
