ogivlado (2346), Zagreb, Croatia Jul 11, 2008 Bottled(750ml). -RBESG2008, Grand Tasting. 2006 vintage.
Black coloured, small cappuccino head, alcoholic licorice nose. Roasted malt, chocolate and licorice taste with surprisingly mild alcoholic finish. Very nice one.
MoritzF (3883), Ruhrpott, Germany Aug 31, 2008 (75cl bottle, vintage 2006; with big thanks to Papsoe !) Pitch black coloured hue with a dense and brown coloured foamy layer. Sweet, even a bit sugary roast-malty aroma with complex notes of caramel, chocolate, vanilla/oak and a vinous alcoholic touch. Sweet and roasty bitter flavour, full-bodied, almost creamy mouthfeel with a smooth and well-matured carbonation. Strong roasty malty taste with burnt elements and a present malty and oaky sweetness; roasty malty taste with dark chocolate, coffee and liquorice, leading into a lasting bitter-sweet, roasty and delicately oaky finish with a rather strong and a bit Brandy-like alcoholic touch; dark chocolate in the aftertaste. Tasty Imp. Stout, just lacking a little bit more balance (30.08.08). DA (2425), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Aug 18, 2008 RBSG 2008. Pours dark brown with a soft tan head. Bourbony sharp note up front, peaty, earthy, and slightly boozy. Dark bakers chocolate up front, medium roastiness. The finish picked up a soft acidic character. cgarvieuk (2388), Edinburgh, Scotland Aug 17, 2008 Bottle at GBBF 08 ... Deep black ... rich vanilla ... little whiskey ... loads of malts ... rich chocolate ... bit unbalanced. fonefan (4491), Ulfborg, Denmark Aug 12, 2008 Bottle 75cl. Clear dark black color with a average, frothy, good lancing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, coffee, wood - oak, peat, red wine notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (310508) Ughsmash (3008), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 11, 2008 2006 bottle at RBSG. Poured deep brown with a short dusting of tan head. The aroma picked up sweet, brighter barrel notes upfront with oak, vanilla, and lesser sweet Scotch representin’.. the stout itself was less robust with roasted dark chocolate and star anise in there.. enjoyed it very much. The flavor had rich dark chocolate and licorice on the initial impression with spicy black pepper, sour oak, and vanilla beans coming shortly after.. smoky whiskey picked up at the back, giving a dry, engaging finish. Medium-plus bodied with OK balance on the palate.. a touch too much barrel tartness, but that was a minor misstep. Great!
