(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Dark brown-black color with a brown head. Aroma is full of dark chocolate and some carob. Flavor has some roastiness, cocoa and hints of carob. Medium to full-bodied, quite syrupy. Decent.

There are some really interesting things coming out of Italy these days. This ranks up there in the interesting category. Draft, Capital Ale House Innsbrook. Pours a pitch black with a creamy, compact head. Aroma is chocolate, faint coffee, and very faint sour cherry and anise. Flavor is lots of chocolate, an odd but intentional medicinal note, faint coffee, and faint dark fruit, with an almost vinuous, winey note as well on the finish. Very smooth mouthfeel, probably a result of the crazy high levels of oats present here. Very interesting, sipping, chocolate oatmeal stout.

Bottled @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2008. Hazy and amber coloured with a medium sized head. I found this a bot strange and unbalanced - heavy notes of liqourice.

I think this was the last beer at a very hazy beer sampling night at the ginger mans. Have to admit, no notes for this. I remember this being a bit tarty and fruity. Massive sweet finish if I remember correctly (which I seriously think is very doubtful)

Bottle from By The Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a cloudy deep brown body with a handsome tan, bubbly head. Nose of sweet sugary hot cocoa. Creamy, complex, fruity. Nice nutty, earthy, hops presence. Malty spine with fruits all the way through. Delicious!

Very hazy brown color, small firm tan head. Strong aroma of cocoa and candy. Liquerish palate. Nice cocoa liquerish flavor with some chocolate too. Very tasty.

How do I say this name? Tap @ Gingerman. Pours black with a light tan head. Aroma is surprising, lightly tart fruit jam with licorice and some dark prunes. That’s not what it actually smells like but I can’t freaking figure out how the heck to describe it. Very new and original with earthy, fruity, tart, and dark fruit aspects. Flavor is full of dark berries and dark malts but comes off a bit astringent. Some sweet dark grape skins as well.. Got to admit, stuff is pricey but its original.

Re-rate: 750mL flip top bottle. Pours beautiful with a large khaki head, that never fully fades, which sits atop a black body. Aroma is slightly sour tropical fruits, seems like a combination of esters and a cool yeast. Taste is an amalgamation of light roast, light chocolate sweetness and an earthy mineral feel. Goes down very easy yet full of character. Its well carbonated but has a slightly velvet feel on the tongue as well . Overall a very nice and original brew, very different than a traditional stout and not yeast dominated like a Belgian stout. The sourness on the nose is lovely, not really damn sure where its coming from. 8/4/8/4/16.
