Bottle. Poured a dark purplish-brown color with a medium light-brown head. Good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, brown sugar, and toffee. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is complex, with a nice blend of brown sugar, malt, and wood. Very nice Scottish ale, along the lines of Old Chub. Thanks to Caddylac for this bottle.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with snowtiger (thanks!). Poured a dark mahogany color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of toffee, peat, smoke, dark fruits and on the earthy side. Softer tastes of caramel, dark fruits, wood and peat. Light alcohol in the finish but overall well hidden. Smooth and easy to drink. This was one kick ass scotch ale.

[Colorado Road Trip – 2006] A deep dark beer with a minimal head. Loved the flavor of this beer . Has tons of different flavors from toffee, Carmel and smoke flavors. This was a great Scottish ale and I loves this type of beer. Pour me more please.

Draft at brewery: Deep, dark brown. Invitingly roasty nose. Seems a little light up front, but it improves drastically as it warms (in more ways than just texture). Soft, velvety and rich, with a mild carbonation. Notes of toffee, chocolate, nuts (almonds and cashews), toasted bread, campfire-soaked wood, chewy peat, and some smoke in the background. Nicely balanced, with an earthy, grassy and herbal bitterness (mostly at the finish and aftertaste). Eight percent is hidden pretty well, but it’s a cozy beer for sure. Good stuff, especially in a globe/snifter glass. RERATE BOTTLE (08): Inky black (dark brown in front of light); thinnish head. Chewy, very flavorful malts, with coffee, peat, anise, tar, caramel, milk chocolate, smoke and charcoal. Moderate bitterness with some burntness. Tasty stuff.

Pours a deep dark mahogany brown with a wispy light tan head. Aroma of sweet oily dark fruits, caramel malt and lots of smoky peat. Body starts with a full sticky caramel sweetness and light butterscotch malty flavor turning more peaty toward a lightly warming finish. A nice Scotch ale.

Bottle... DLD’08... Clear black ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Smoky, chocolate and coffee nose. Full-bodied and creamy with gentle carbonation. Great balance. Chocolate and smoke. Finishes bittersweet, chocolaty and smoky. Not positive this is brewed to style at all. Great smoked porter? Very nice, either way!
