Pint at the Castle on King. Dark reddish brown, with a one-finger off-white head. Aroma of peaches, apricot, plum, with a touch of spicy hops. Flavour of fruit, quite spicy, cinnamon, cloves, not quite as bitter as I expected. Very nice mouthfeel, not too heavy, not too light. Leaves tons of lacing down the glass. An excellent pint.

On tap at the Castle, of course. Pours a nice reddy-amber colour with a moderate head. Aroma is very nice with peach, apricot and grapefruit notes. Flavour is outstanding, with peaches follwed by a pretty decent piney bitterness, a little bit of spice and a deep bready malt finish. Complex and rewarding.

Pours a clear copper color with reddish higlights. Pleasant aroma of earthy malt and hops. Interesting, balanced flavor of earthy malt, hops and mild sweetness. The body is light to medium while the carbonation is moderate. Not bad at all!

In short: A plain nice English Strong Ale
How: Post-Mondial 2008 tasting session. Growler from one of the Ontario visitor
The look: Clear dark copper body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: I enjoyed the body and mounthfeel of this one. Nice earthy and woody malts, round caramel, light nutty flavours, leafy hops. Not very tasty and nothing that stands out in the flavour spectrum but the beer had this freshness character that made quite enjoyable. Very well balanced beer, I put my glass on the table and it didn’t flip over.

[1460-20080531] Growler. Fruity pineapple aroma has a bit of booze and sweet hints of sweat. Lightly hazy, dark red amber body with a foamy off-white head. Fruity heavy malt flavour has a boozy sweat hint. Medium body. Interesting fruity background.

Con tap at The Castle on King. Redish rusty tan pour with a thick head. Strong cent. Hops and malt in the nose, but mostly hops in the mouth. Warm taste that is quite complex. Slight boozy aftertaste (which to me is a good thing)

Dark Copper/Reddish Brown, with a small off-white head. Nice balance of hops and caramel-y malts. Slightly bitter, yeasty and a hint of alcohol. Very good job again GRB

On tap at the Castle on King. Dark copper brown, small white head, looks good. Fresh resiny hop aroma - strong. Taste is terrific - resiny hops, light body, which seems to increase the bitterness, but still a good amount of malt in there. Very bitter, even more so in the finish. This reminded me instantly of the Old Corporal Punishment from Scotch Irish. Probably best to try this one fresh from the source, this is a terrific brew and I look forward to having lots of it when I move to this area this Fall. Great job Grand River.
