Commercial Description:
The Galt Knife Old Style is a variation of a beer style that was popular in the region in the late 1800's in breweries like Rock Springs from Preston and Western Steam in Strathroy. Malty body balanced with a generous amount of floral hops.

Bottled on 4/22/09. Poured clear honeyed orange with a well-retained cap of white head. The aroma picked up juicy lighter fruit and floral notes with a bit of a kick to it.. caramel and honey backed it.. really tangy nose. The flavor opened with tart light fruit skin (some green apple present) and a hefty dose of floral and grassy bitterness.. caramel, bready notes, and honey on the sweet core.. spicy floral bitterness joined sour fruit skin and wheat on the finish. Light-bodied, but with a somewhat thick feel on the palate.. carbonation didn’t seem to do much.. some nice components in here, but I just don’t know about the sourness because it was a reasonably fresh bottle. I’d give it another shot.

Bottle thanks to Matt7215. Pours a nice amber gold with thick white head. Aroma strong of malt, slight hops, caramel, and wheat. I am finding that so far, every Grand River brew has this slight wheat taste with wheat finish. Very refreshing. Enjoyable, just not quite as smooth as I was hoping for.

Much as the commercial description states; "a beer style that was popular in the region in the late 1800’s", this is what lager should and probably used to taste like around here. A nice session beer with ample flavour from both the hops and malt in a lager. Good to great.

500 ml bottle. Pours a clear deep gold with virtually no head. Aroma balances caramel malt with floral hops. Taste is sweet and malty, fairly bready. Real bitterness and dryness in the finish. A fairly impressive offering.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a thin sticky white head. Aroma is light, and mostly bready. The flavour starts out very grainy with a slight touch of honey in the middle which is quickly dominated by a very citrus grapefruit rind flavour. Soapy finish.

Pours gold with a white head. Smells of caramel, light citrus. Tastes bitter with a dry finish. Not much going on here.
