Commercial Description:
The Galt Knife Old Style is a variation of a beer style that was popular in the region in the late 1800's in breweries like Rock Springs from Preston and Western Steam in Strathroy. Malty body balanced with a generous amount of floral hops.

Sampled at the Kitchener Craft Beer show. Pours a nice deep golden colour with a large rocky head. The aroma is malty (the straw and barley are enough to entice any true lager-lover) with a hint of some strong hops. The taste is actually more dominated by some very tasty, bready malts, with the significant amount of expected hops to balance it out. It’s not as hoppy as I was expecting, after having tried the Plowman’s Ale first, but it’s still got enough to please a hop-head IMHO. I actually like this one more than the Plowman’s Ale (but I am just a tad bit more of a lager man to be honest). I honestly get offended when this is compared to Brooklyn lager, I hated brooklyn lager, but loved this one, go figure.

Growler, generously shared by Jerc and Mabel - thank you!! Nice dark yellow, small white head - looks great. Weak aroma - light malt and not much else. Lots of malt and aggressive hops in taste - tons of lingering bitterness, if not a bit harsh. Certainly similar to Brooklyn Lager here in that it is a lager with malt substance and substantial hops. I really enjoyed it! a great addition to the Ontario scene.

Growler. Bright orange-golden body with a medium-sized creamy white head. Sweet caramel and cookie aroma - toasty with vegetable husk notes. The flavour is quite sweet and toasty with some crisp grassiness and sharp astringency. A solid effort.

1.9 l growler from the brewery. wow where do i begin. the aromas are incredible: bread yeast, sweet malt, caramel, sweet grass, hops, slight floral notes and more come out as this beer warms. pours deep golden with a beautiful white frothy head (two fingers) the head laces the glass just as it should and the carbonation is perfect for the style. the flavours are an amazing balance of the aromas and the layers of flavour are incredible considering this being only 4.4%. complexity and balance that you rarely find in this style. this is the best lager ive ever tasted and im looking forward to seeing it available in other size options. i cant wait to try the ale.

[397-20070704] Growler (c/o jerc, w/ him, tupalev). Sweet aroma with some hoppy hints. Clear, burnt amber brown body with a quick foamy white head. Sweet malty flavour with some grain and hops. Medium body is a bit rough. Nice colour.

An excellent lager with a full mouthfeel and good bitterness. The finish is a little harsh, but all in all a solid effort.

For once i agree with Hogtown Harry. golden color grainy with like said a salty taste good hops for a lager but could be better, im sure still a bit of a work in progress

This lager poured a dark yellow colour with a great looking off white foamy head. From a growler purchased at the brewery. The nose has scents of orange citrus and sweet malts with an additional floral hop. First taste was very hoppy with an immediate bitter bite. Although not quite as bitter as the Ploughmans Ale it is a little milder. Bitter finish with a bitter hop palate. Slight citrus aftertaste. A little too much like the Ploughmans Ale. I was hoping for something different than the Ale. Great beers but not to drink too much of, I find the hop flavour a little too bold for more than 1 pint at a time.
