| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 22, 2007 (Bottle) Pours a brown color with a white head. Aroma is distinctly malty. Some toffee and hop aromas as well. Good mouthfeel, and average carbonation. Finishes rather hoppy, but balanced as well. I really enjoyed this beer. hayduke (1663), Eureka, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 21, 2007 From a 12 oz bottle, this poured a very rich and clear mahogony with a reddish foamy and attractive head that left good lacing. Medium to rich mouthfeel, and flavor of earthy malts, citrus hops, and just enough coffee and chocolate to round things off. Good long bitter finish. Excellent brew overall. bhensonb (4355), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2007 Rich aroma of roasted malt with some citrus hop. Medium mahogany color with a white head that flattened rapidly. Bits of lace get left as the level goes down. Medium body with creamy, nigh chewy, carbonation. The flavor is roasted malt, lots of it, with some citrus hop that does not seem enough to balance. The finish is malt, but as the liquid leaves the sweetness departs to reveal some nice bitter hop - and it ends more dry than not. After awhile I get coffee at the end of a mouthful. Overall it is a really good drink. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

It is clear brown in color with a red tint. Its tan head is dense and leaves a lasting frothy crown and cascading lacing on the glass. The flavor has a hint of chocolate and a mild bitterness. Overall this beer has a good balance to it. The medium body does seem slightly watery though. Even so, this is still a good ESB.
12 fl. oz. bottle from my parents. Rating #138 for this beer... goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA

Malty flavor is the dominant character her. There is some bitterness in the middle with a nutty finish. There was a hint of citrus at the end as well. Light body. badlizard (2373), Berkeley, California, USA
