Sweet caramel and Cascades aroma, pleasantly hoppy with a touch of wood and dough. Blood-red body with a lacing, soapy tanned head. Bittersweet taste is caramel and soapy hops, toffee and light grapefruit. Ctirus and faint bg resin. Chewy but watery medium body and crisp mf, touch of orange and lychee. Slight nuttiness and dough. Dry, bitter aftertaste lingers for about ten minutes. Robust and full of character. Lively and interesting, thanks Jake! GG (1665), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 27, 2007 How this is marginally hoppier than their IPA, still confuses me. A couple of guys I was drinking these with actually wondered if they had somehow switched labels, because this was clearly more hoppier than their IPA. Aroma was piney hops, with a subtle doughy nose that makes you think your drinking a decent IPA. Bzzzz. Wrong! It’s an ESB! Appearance is dark mahogany brown with ruby red highlights. Flavor is slightly nutty, caramel and some roasty character which made me even more confused to the style. Tasty though. Beerdedone (1888), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

Nice fruity taste...Pours slightly hazy dark amber, nearly brownish, with a finger or so of biege head. Light aroma of fruity hops and some caramel. Mouthfeel light and smooth, on the thin side. Lots of sloppy lacing. Flavor is medium bitterness overlaying mild caramel and hints of fruitiness. Light hit of bitterness through finish. Beaver (599), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 20, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark tea brown with a creamy light tan head that retains well and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is toasty caramel and grapefruity citrus hops. It kind of reminds me of some of the hoppy American barleywines.
The flavor is sweet toasty caramel/toffee with some resiny grapefruity hops leading to a decent bitter aftertaste. It mellows some as it warms. The mouthfeel is medium and slightly watery with some sharp carbonation.
Overall, this was a very nice surprise! I usually don’t like ESBs, but this is a lot fruitier with the west coast hops. It’s more like a weak barleywine or Arrogant Bastard. mikey (337), farmington, Utah, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 15, 2007 Poured a slightl ruby brown color with a finger of soft white head. The nose was mostly grapefruit hops, with some flowery hops floating in the back. The flavor starts with a burst of citrus hop, followed with a touch of caramel, finishing with a nice flowery bitter kick. The feel is thin but the drinkablity awsome. A really nice beer. The nice residual bitters that the hops leave keep me wanting more and more. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA
