The aroma has malty sweetness, hops, and a light vegetal quality, that thankfully doesn’t show up in the flavor. Sweet malty flavor, a bit toasty, with some earthy hops. Nice. brianprentiss (475), Portland, Oregon, USA

Smooth bodied with fine carbonation. Gentle and lingering bitter finish reminiscent of quinine.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 21, 2008 12oz. bottle. Roasty, nutty malt aroma, blended with leafy, herbal, citric hop, touches of dark malt sweetness and faint cocoa. Dark amber-brown color, clear, with a fine, lasting head. Flavor is comprised of a similar blend of dark malts and prominent hops, with notes of hazelnut, bread, caramel, mild coffee, grapefruit, lemon and earthiness, finishing bitter and piney. Palate is quite dry and mildly effervescent, body is medium. Really puts the ’’B’’ in ESB. DasGrau (18), Topeka, Kansas, USA

Is has a mild bitterness that lingered on in the aftertaste. I really like this one! not much of a head though. Beardface (1015), Eugene, Oregon, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 27, 2008 Bottle. Deep rusty brown and red colored pour. First whiff is fruit, nuts and a little bit of wood... hops have that sharp cedar wood and peanut character, while the malt base is chewy caramel and toasted bread. Medium body, frothy texture, the hops are bright and fresh, sharp and vibrant, but noble-like, with crusty bread and wood the most obvious qualities. Good stuff, perhaps a little on the sweet side, but otherwise a solid beer. mtnbrwr (4), , Idaho, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2008 An excellent American style brown ale. They must have designed the label before they designed the beer, because this is not an ESB, unless you mean Extra Special Brown. Pours a rich mahogany with a dense, tan head. The foam remains for the duration of the pint. Well balanced hints of chocolate and caramel malt meld beautifully with American high alpha hops. Full bodied and full flavored, this is probably not a session beer; but brewed in a place where it’s winter most of the year, it hits the spot.
