| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 26, 2008 Bottled. Poured a whole lot darker than I expected.. garnety brown with a dusting of deep beige head. The aroma picked up toasted caramel and nutty notes with less hop character (drier leaves and herbs).. smelled much closer to a brown ale, but smelled good however you want to classify it. The flavor had rich caramelization accompanied by the same herbal bitterness (overall low-to-moderate bitterness, but it picked up a very welcome pine component at the finish).. very well balanced. Medium-bodied with low carbonation that pushed it across the palate well.. grainier finish with the tasty pine and more caramel. Nice one! jbuzz (664), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 19, 2008 12 oz. bottle in trade from Douglas88- thank you! Served in pint glass- poured hazy dark brown with ruby tints when held to a light source, low carbonation, half finger head off tan in color formed and refused to go away. Aroma of cocoa, caramel, and a stout like roasted malt. Hits the mouth with a solid medium body, malt is highly enjoyable, cream texture in the middle, finish is bittering and has hops easily found in the background. Good stuff maynard! | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Sep 15, 2008 Pours a very murky dark brown with single finger sustained head. Not really getting any aroma. taste is somewhat roasty, which was quite unexpected. Also somewhat chocolatey, super bitter, and very dry. None of these are what I think of when I think ESB (pretty sure the BJCP agrees); I do not consider this to style. ESB’s should be easy-drinking, which this most certainly is not. This is a sink beer. IlanMan (850), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma is of very fresh hops, caramel malt, and sweet malt. Body is real smooth with a little bit lighter floral hop characters moving towrards more sweet malt. Very similar to a bitter amber. Good brew. An easy drink. May buy again. Bockyhorsey (2556), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 10, 2008 12 oz bottle. Sweet furity malt aroma. Amber body with beige head some lacing. Flavor lots of dried fruits and moderate sweet malt in the background. Sticky laquer on the palate with a dry bitterness lingering. Need a glass of water. Strykzone (1501), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 9, 2008 Dark amber with a half inch uneven orange tinted head. Looks like cherry juice added to a cola. Lots of lacing. Aroma is piney hops. Flavor is dominated by the pine but with some interesting nutty malt notes that give it lots of personality. Earthiness and cough medicine, also. Moderate bitterness. I have been up this creek many times in life. Next time there I will reach for one of these. Very enjoyable.
