The aroma is very pleasantly hoppy combined with toffee. The flavor is very hoppy and grassy as well as contain notes of caramel. The alcohol leaves a slight burn - which amazes me considering the rather low ABV (5.5%) omhper (12227), Stockholm, Sweden

Medium sweet with clean crystal malt character. Medium bodied with restrained American style graepfruity hop profile. Shooting for balance it seems, but needs deeper, softer malt to achieve greatness. Still a highly enjoyable beer. kp (8396), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 11, 2005 Rich cherrywood colour. Aroma is rich and chewy - earth, toffee, caramel and wood with light fruitcakey notes. A lot of these are volatile and won’t be there ten minutes later, which is a shame because that initial whiff is outstanding. The flavour is brilliantly balanced between bitter, resiny hopping and toffeeish, demerara malts. The combined effect is as fresh, woody and invigourating as a mountain forest in the rain. The finish is long and continues the chewy element. The flavour loses a bit as it warms, believe it or not, as the malts come out more and the balance tilts. Still, an excellent example of the style and a damn fine pint. argo0 (6907), Washington DC, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2004 Pours a clear copper bronze with a thick puffy, and well-lacing off-white head. Aroma is semi-sweet, malty, and earthy with an English hop balance. Body starts with a candy-like sweetness, some lager-like off-flavors and a semi-dry finish. Goes down smooth, but could use a touch more balance throughout. Otherwise a decent ESB, thanks Indiana_Red.
