Commercial Description:
This thick, rich ale was brewed with plenty of caramel and roasted malts, and subtly spiced with American Chinook and Willamette hops. It boasts flavors of chocolate and coffee, along with raisins and dried fruit soaked in sherry. We’ve accentuated the natural smoikness of the brew by adding a small amount of beechwood-smoked malt and aging the brew in an oak whiskey barrel, which also adds notes of oak and vanilla.

Near black in color with a moderate tan, tight bubbled head. Dark caramel, roasted malts and some green hops in the aromas. Big roasted and toasted malt flavors atop a decent base of lighter malts. Little bit of pepper in the finish and into the linger. Not getting much smoke and only a touch of oak. A touch sharp, but a decent Imperial stout.

One liter swing top bottle courtesy of jake65 back in ’08. Pours black like used motor oil with a 1/4" brown cap. Aroma is heavy chocolate malt with coffee notes. Heavy, oily palate with low carbonation. You know you’re drinking a serious brew. Flavor follows the aroma with dark chocolate and coffee being up front with secondary vanilla and brown sugar. Just a touch of wood to it. I loved it.

Bottle pours black with a 1 finger beige head with tight bubbles. Aroma smells heavily of milk chocolate & roasted malt with accentuating notes of coffee, sherry, vinous fruit and oak. Flavor is chocolate, whisky, cigar ash, cola, and some soy with a slight pine resin finish. Overall body is moderate and oily with a healthy amount of carbonation.

Appearance: Pours like thick black motor oil with a decent layer of khaki froth atop. Aroma: Strong aromas of roasted malt, coffee, semi-sweet chocolate and a bit of dark fruit in there as well. Taste: Lots of roast, a bit burnt malts, moderate earthy hop bitterness, finishes with dry dark roast and dark chocolate. Mouthfeel; Full bodied and creamy. Overall: A nice roasty dry Imperial Stout.

On tap at Beachwood about a week ago. A nice surprise to see this on tap. Color was a dark brown with an average brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, smoke/coffee, chalk, and wood/whiskey. Flavor of caramel, sweet malt, roasted malt, chalk, smoke, fruit and wood. Pretty easy drinking, but not surprising due to the abv. A well balanced and quite complex beer.

Sampled from 1 litre bottle and shared by Ughsmash. Pours an opaque dark brown (almost black) brew with a creamy tan head that has some nice retention and lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, dark chocolate, a hint of soy sauce, smoked wood and some coffee. Taste is full bodied, with flavors of toasted dark malt, some smoked wood, oak, vanilla, a hint of dark chocolate and coffee. Finish is semi-sweet the a very faint bitterness but more dark malt aftertaste during and after the finish. Two years of aging has done this very good. Most excellent.
