Smoke is apparent in the aroma, as well as dried fruit, and when swirled in the glass, a slight presence of piney, resinous American hops. The mouthfeel is right on, plenty of body without being too thick. The flavor is complex, with chocolate, roasted, fruity and smoky flavors all playing at once. The beer comes on sweet and smoky at first, then finishes with a nice dark malt bitterness in the end. Very nice. RollinHard (764), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 25, 2008 Thanks to my girlfriend for picking up two of these bottles...and thanks to her mom for temporarily losing them in storage for 10 months! Anyway, they’re mine now! Pours black with a moderate light brown/dark tan head. Aroma of earthy coffee beans, toffee, caramel, graham crackers, espresso, and a bit of raisins. Tastes of dark chocolate, espresso, brownie mix, nuttier coffees, light raisin, finishes with a gentle nutty roast flavor with a slight vanilla and peanut butter flavor. Medium bodied, but definitely creamy and full-feeling without being too heavy. Don’t go in thinking the 7.5 abv is gonna be lacking! Very good, well rounded and smooth. A satisfying impy stout with a lot to offer and drinkability to suit the every day occasion.
