Commercial Description:
This thick, rich ale was brewed with plenty of caramel and roasted malts, and subtly spiced with American Chinook and Willamette hops. It boasts flavors of chocolate and coffee, along with raisins and dried fruit soaked in sherry. We’ve accentuated the natural smoikness of the brew by adding a small amount of beechwood-smoked malt and aging the brew in an oak whiskey barrel, which also adds notes of oak and vanilla.

Deep brown, a bit of tan hanging aroud the edges. On most occations, I don’t change ratings for packaging, but this was a memorably nice presentation--extra point. A toasty, oaky beer, rounded edges, caramel. Surprised to see this is just 7.5%. Would have placed this a bit stronger.

Bottle, chris_o shindig. Black with a brown head. Big aroma - sweet and fluffy. Icing sugar. Espresso and chocolates. Very strong sweet icing sugar mouth, carries as malty with espresso. Lasts through. (Marked as homo beer in my notebook, thanks oh6gdx).

Bottled - Chris O shindig 2007 - A black coloured stout. The aroma is hoppy and smoky with great fruits and malts. The taste has a long sticky soy sauce finish together with the fruits and malts. A really tasty great beer seriously underrated here IMO.

A Sim rate (bottle at Chris O’s Shindig): Aroma of caramel, dark chocolate and coffee. Everything an imperial stout should be. Tastes again of coffee and chocolate. Damn!

1Liter bottle-pours a brown head with bubbles and black color. Aroma is lots of dark malt-licorice. Taste is lots of dark malt-licorice, some astringency from Jim Beam-silky. Not my style. (3.3 from 2 friends that shared this)

2005 vintage bottle thanks to Indiana_Red sampled on 7/2/06: Pours a mostly opaque black with dark brown edges and a thin ring of tan head. Sweet caramel malt and soy sauce aroma has a touch of fresh piny hops. Body starts with a thick viscous caramel maltiness and a touch of dark fruity complexity before a lightly tart earthy roasted dark chocolate finish. A pretty good imperial stout, but would be better with less tartness.
