Commercial Description:
Bone Warmer Amber Ale, brewed in the "strong ale" tradition, is a beer of great character, with exceptional malt flavor and warming alcohol content. Historically, brewers often drew three different runs from the same barley mash. The first, used for strong ale of "best beer", had the most alcohol. The second was used for less strong "table beer", and the third, a lighter and cheaper "small beer". Our Bone Warmer is brewed the same way, using only the first runnings from an extraordinarily thick, strong mash of Idaho 2-Row Metcalfe and Harrington barley malt, along with dark German munich and caramel malts. We subtly spiced it with "noble" character American Perle and Mt. Hood hops, fermented it at cool temperatures and cold-conditioned it for smoothness and drinkabitlity. The resulting ale is the color of roasting chestnuts, voluptuously malty, only slightly sweet, with a hint of toffee and a warming dry finish. It's an ideal accompaniment to rich meaty stews, wild game, roasted fowl or root vegetables, and aged cheddars.

Bottle. Pours a reddish orange with a average size off white head. Aroma is sweet with molasses, honey, banana and some grain. The flavor has a definate alcohol presence and is quiet sweet. While many may find it to sweet I thought it was a good flavorful beer. The finish is creamy with a slight acidity. The lack of bitterness may put off some but if you like sweet beers this is really good.

1 liter bottle provided by kp for the tasting: Reddish amber hue with a small frothy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of grassy noble hops, anise, clove, caramel, peanut, vanilla, and smell sort of vinous. The taste is sweet and honey nut bread with a nice zap of hop spice and round bitterness in support. Run of dark fruits as well. The mouth feel is lush and sharp, warming and enjoyable.

WOW, a big surprise !!! I really dug this and best yet, it is carbonated!

Tall 1 Liter, swing-top bottle. Gold Wax. Medium copper color. Aroma of spicy hops. Flavor is happy sharp bitter. Finish is a hop bomb. Not your ordinary Amber Ale. This is an American Strong for sure!

Appearance: Pours a still, mahogany brown body. Smell: Spiced caramel aroma with fruity accents of apricots and figs. Yes, there’s even some salted nuts in there as well. Taste: Sugary sweet cookie-like malts with a hit of juicy fig fruitiness and a handful of nuts. Light, spicy bitterness. A touch of booze on the fruity, sweet finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Near still. Drinkability: It’s quite the fine, tasty beer but for the lack of carbonation.

1 litre swing top bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a large lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, fruitiness, biscuit and light sherry. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark fruit, carmel, dark bread and a hint of vanilla with a smooth lingering bittersweet finish.

Be still my heart! A Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club selection from Grand Teton that’s actually CARBONATED! My stars!.... 1 quart, 1.8 fl. oz. gold wax-enveloped swing-top bottle. Attached card states "NOV 16, 2007". Pours a cloudy amber color with an aggressive head of yellow-tinged beige. Laces in amoeba-like splotches of foam. Aromas of grain, nut, and a resinous hop tone. Alcohol flavors with a sticky hop character and some caramel and toffee notes. Boozy notes become rather obnoxious as I travel to the bottom of the liter. Shy smoke notes arrive. Sweet, yet thin in the end. The best Grand Teton "Grand Reserve" I’ve had, but it’s still subpar.

This was actually pretty tasty. It has a short finish, but a solid maltiness. Surprisingly clean for the size, very low bitterness and pretty easy drinking. I would kind of like a little bolder flavor from a beer this big.
