Commercial Description:
"...Was brewed to showcase yeast in the flavor of beer, and was brewed in strict adherence to the Reinheitsgebot. "Weizenbock means strong wheat beer. Wheat contributes a pleasant citric acidity and delicacy on the palate, and its surfet of protein creates a massive head. Howling Wolf was crafted with 40% wheat malt and minimally spiced with Liberty Hops. Like all Bavarian wheat beers, yeast is the star of this show."

Dark amber color with a full heavy looking, off-white head. Sweet fruit and aromas of banana, peach and dough. Some underlying scents of cloves and yeast. Flavors follow in line with the aromas. Sweet fruit and wheat in the front, with spice and hops in the middle to finish. A touch too sweet for me, especially when the alcohol starts to show up. Alcohol adds some sweetness and additional peppery spice. Close, but no cigar. It gets a bit to cloying for me.

Bottle: Pours a hazy amber color with a nice tan head. the nose is malty with rich caramel and sweet plum, a decent heat and alcohol note in the nose as well. The flavor has a nice chewy body with some ripe esters and yeasty fruit notes. Ample body and a nice finish. A little hot, but still has a nice quaffability and body. Yum.

From a large swing top bottle, 2009 version. The body was dark amber with haze. Topped with a light khaki colored head. The aroma was bubblegum with some bread crust. Deeply funky and yeasty in the nose. The taste was bubblegum with some yeast notes coming through strong. There was bread crust and wood. A little bit of hay and even hints of smoke. Solidly made, but not worth the price.

One liter swingtop from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours a reddish apricot with large frothy off-white head. Aromas of fruit and spice. Full bodied with frothy carbonation. Flavor is light stone fruit (lots of it), clove and spices, and yeast. It finishes more sweet than dry, but the yeast/spice is so strong it offsets the maltiness. Strange flavors toward the finish, ending in notes of banana. There’s a lot going on here. Words are inadequate. Try it.

Sampled on 10/23/2009. This weizenbock pours a medium brown copper color from a 1-liter swingtop bottle. Medium sized tannish colored head. The aroma is brown sugar, banana and clove, fairly sweet. A medium bodied weizenbock. The malts are fruity and sweet, lots of brown sugar, banana and clove flavors. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. Good carbonation. A nice, if somewhat sweet, weizenbock. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bottle; these guys finally found it in their souls to not put wax on their swing-top bottles. Pours hazy orange with a large, frothy, off-white head, somewhat diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, straw, caramel), light hop (herbs), average yeast (dough, horse blanket) with notes of clove, cooked banana, brown sugar, and vanilla. Full bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and an astringent finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

1 litre swing top bottle poured a clear orange amber with a lasting light amber head. Aromas of banana, carmel, dates, wheat, light pear and light spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of banana, dates, carmel, wheat, spice and light pear with a smooth lingering spiced finish.
