Commercial Description:
"...Was brewed to showcase yeast in the flavor of beer, and was brewed in strict adherence to the Reinheitsgebot. "Weizenbock means strong wheat beer. Wheat contributes a pleasant citric acidity and delicacy on the palate, and its surfet of protein creates a massive head. Howling Wolf was crafted with 40% wheat malt and minimally spiced with Liberty Hops. Like all Bavarian wheat beers, yeast is the star of this show."

1 qt, 1.8 oz swingtop bottle. 2009 vintage. Smells Belgian or like a really great German wheat beer, but comes from Idaho! I taste a conglomeration of spices, though this beer adheres to the German Purity Law of 1516, containing only hops, malted barley, water, and yeast. There are so many different flavors in this complex beer, it’s hard to believe it only contains those four ingredients. Excellent!

2009 1L bottle from BevMo San Jose! Beers 20th rating. Nose of banana, yeast, cloves, and some caramelized sugar.Hazy copper with a big beige head. Flavor is somewhat sweet bananas, cloves, a bitter hint, and a slightly sweet Belgian caramel finish. Excellent! Best new weizen bock I have had in a long time!

I thought this was absolutely one of the more fantastic example of the style that I have tried in years. The nose is strongly reminiscent of the same yeasty qualities that you get from a traditional hefeweizen, lots of cloves and banana, but than you get a second aroma of sweet candy sugars and caramel maltiness. Very warming on the palate with lots of sweet candied fruits and bubblegum, very full and filling, not a single tastebuds goes unoccupied with pleasure while drinking this one. In a blind testing one would never be able to tell this was an American Beer. Extremely well done.

On tap at Sugar maple. Hazy amber with large frothy off-white head. Aroma of banana, clove, fruit, yeast and toasted malt. Taste of banana, fruit, mild alcohol, spicy yeast, caramel and sweet malt. Pretty solid weizenbock.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a very large beige head that slowly fades. Taste is of fruit, banana, raisin, wheat, yeast and spice. Similar aroma. Very easy to drink. The alcohol is hidden well. A very nice beer and is rather enjoyable to drink. Worth picking up again.

From a large swing top bottle, 2009 version. The body was dark amber with haze. Topped with a light khaki colored head. The aroma was bubblegum with some bread crust. Deeply funky and yeasty in the nose. The taste was bubblegum with some yeast notes coming through strong. There was bread crust and wood. A little bit of hay and even hints of smoke. Solidly made, but not worth the price.

I guess I like this more than others well here we go.......The aroma contains some bananas, caramel, cloves, and bready notes. The flavor contains some grapes, caramel, wheat, lemons, bananas and a hint of booze. The finish is on the sour side. I thought this was a nice beer!
