Commercial Description:
Sweetgrass is crisp and fragrant with a generous yet smooth hop character. The sweet bouquet and spicy flavor come from the combination of five hops and Idaho grown barleys. The color? We call is “Suntan”!

Bottle courtesy of Secret Santa. Orange body, small white head. Fairly prominent but moderate grapefruit in aroma and flavour, very light malt in the flavour. Average bordering on thin palate is acceptable. Nice hoppy pale ale, but lacks the complexity and oomph for the next level.

Bottle shared wit Jerc and Hogtown Harry, Jerc’s bottle. Soapy, spicy, pepper aroma. Deep yellow, foamy white head. Decent taste - malt and hops, what else! Tons of grapefruit citrus in the linger that really wasn’t there in the taste. A quenching solid pale.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with jerc and tupalev, jerc’s botle. Pale clear bright orange with a smallish head. Good resin/spruce pungent hop aroma, decent malt backing. Taste is lighter than I expected, but nice, same hops, okay toasty somewhat sweet malt, balanced, not big but very drinkable - average body, some astringency and carbonation, not much alcohol to be detected - overall a decent mid-level US IPA.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear amber with a creamy, foamy head. Fairly aromatic with notes of citrus and pine. Flavor is definitely tilted to the hops with little malt presence. Finish is very bitter, a bit excessive for me.

Pours with a brilliantly clear copper color and is topped by a frothy, initially two-finger thick, light tan colored head. The aroma is a mix of sweet crystal malt, toasted grain and some fruity hop notes. The malt is certainly the single biggest part of this beer right now, it really almost perfectly captures a caramelized crystal malt character.

There is quite a bit more hop character in the flavor, though it still does not drown out the still quite noticeable malt character. The beer starts with a nice bite of hop character that slowly ramps up through to the finish, where it becomes a nice solid bitterness. Sweet notes of caramelized malt are found throughout this beer, in fact it adds just as much character as the bitterness does. this beer has almost has a perfectly equal balance of malt and hop. The crystal malt flavors seem to accentuate some of the hop character a bit, especially accenting a nice citrusy orange note. There also seems to be a touch of menthol like pine to this beer.

All in all this is a tasty brew, but I can’t quite help thinking that a beer with this amount of malt character could use a whole lot more hops in the brew kettle. This is perhaps not what one looks for in an IPA these days, but it makes for a really quaffable brew. It seems to finish a bit thin as the beer warms up though.

Maybe I’m just feeling this one right now, but this is a full bodied IPA. I poured a bottle into my globe glass. The color’s more amber than brown. Satisfying hoppy bite. Eat my rating, haha.

Aroma caught my attention: some citrus and pine type scents from the hoppy hops inside. Kinda light mouthfeel and a flavor that ends in hoppy dryness. Seemed more like a strong pale ale than a true IPA.
