Commercial Description:
To commemorate that twenty-year history, the brewers of Grand Teton have chosen four of our favorite beers--three current, one historical--to update and enhance. XX Au Naturale Organic Double Red Ale is the third release in our 2008 XX series. Au Naturale Organic Blonde is the newest member of Grand Teton's mainstay beers, first brewed in 2006. Crafted with organic German malt and hops, it has a clean, smooth character reminiscent of the best European lagers. For our 20th Anniversary celebration, we've traded in the blonde for a redhead while keeping our German roots. Still brewed with all German organic malt and hops, the XX Au Naturale is bigger, maltier--and redder--than the original. The reddish Vienna malts that give this ale its color provide a spicy sweetness and some caramel notes that perfectly complement roast or grilled chicken, pizza, or pasta.

Sampled during MN Gathering II in Maplewood, MN and shared by BDR. From a 1 litre swing top bottle pours a semi-cloudy orange-ish amber brew with a thin off-white head that slowly dissipates to a thin white ring. Aroma of caramel malt, some fruity pear, grassy hops and a hint of marshmallow. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of caramel malt, some noble hops, a hint of California apricots, pear and some light herbal spice. Finish is semi-dry with some caramel and dry apricot aftertaste.

Sampled out of a 1L bottle. Pour is a cloudy amber with flavors mostly of caramel. There is also some red fruit flavors and a slight tinge of bitter hops on the finish. A little thin and disappointing really for something called a double anything. Looks pretty tasty though.

Sample enjoyed at Skyview tasting. Pour was a amber/red and had a some malt aroma and a little noticable alcohol. Flavor was like a red ale on steroids! Tons of roasted malt, with a sweet and warming alcohol aftertaste.

Appearance: Pours a hazed, deep reddish body with a thin, bubbly, whitish head. Smell: Aroma smelling of gently toasted malts, a hint of caramel, some fruitiness, and floral, spicy Noble hops. Taste: Light caramel over toasted grains with a single pinch of basic table sugar. Light apricot fruitiness. Floral, faintly spicy hops with a mellow bitterness. Small touch of alcohol ushers in the bittersweet finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A bit of a gaudy presentation for what is a basic, though well-balanced and reasonably enjoyable red. Just glad I wasn’t on the wax-removing crew.

Retarded 1L wax dipped bottle. Why, WHY do we have to wax dip swing top bottles? This annoyance aside, this was a nice malty, hoppy beer. Pretty typical for the style, but tasty nonetheless.

pours a semi-clear burnt auburn with a foamy dirty-beige head, and good lacing. smell is of roasted caramel, malt, some spice, barley, some sweet fruits. taste is caramel, toasted walnuts, an organic funk, spice, hops, and some grain. overall would have scored better if it was not for the organic funk that stays with you after you are done drinking.
