Commercial Description:
Sweetgrass India Pale Ale has been a GTBC staple since early 2002. Brewed solidly in the American IPA style, Sweetgrass is crisp and fragrant with a generous yet smooth hop character. XX Sweetgrass is all that twice over, with double the malt and double the hops--an astonishing three pounds per barrel in the kettle and another pound per barrel of "dry-hops" added after fermentation. The hops provide citrusy, resinous spiciness, making this beer a great match for any bold, flavorful food.

Bottled: Sweet IPA with hints of orange in the taste and left on the palate. Pours a nice amber color with white head. Good beer!

Amber colored with a nice white head, some haze in the look. Smell is sweet, hops, caramel, citrus, and other fruit. Taste is sweet, hops, a little grassy, light but good bitterness.

Sampled at the Bockyhorsey Bocky Bash on 7-5-08. Pours a clear amber color with a big creamy head that lasts throughout and leaves behind nice lacing. Aroma is sweet malt and hops. Flavor is sweet and malty, with the grapefruit and pine hops coming through more on the finish. Good brew, though not as hoppy as I expected from a DIPA. I did enjoy the bottle size, as it seemed to be bottomless! Also, my first from Idaho...WOOHOO!

Big ass flip top bottle sampled at the 7/5/08 Bocky Bash locals tasting. Pours a clear dark amber with 2 finger cream head. Nose is citrus hops, pine and caramel malts. Taste is caramel malt, sugar and mild citrus hops with a slight resin finish. Medium mouth feel. An ok DIPA, but more malts than hops.

Autumn color with a full head of good density. Fairly nice nose, with minty and spruce-like hop notes. Flavor is really nice, not the typical flavor profile of a Double IPA, but its a great tasting brew. Very malty with caramel, toffee and fruit notes that balance nicely with grapefruit-like, super fruity hops. Nice balance, with lingering hoppiness on the finish. Very surprised by this beer. It’s actually quite tasty.

1L bottle with waxed swing top (very annoying to open). Pours a clear golden amber with a big creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet lemoney fruits and grassy hops with a bit of alcohol.

The flavor is some sweet caramel malt and fruits initially, followed by a big grassy, piney hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and syrupy with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent beer. It has a lot of nice components but doesn’t seem to mesh well to me.

1 litre bottle. Pours an almost clear amber with a moderate linen white head that lasted until the bottom of the glass and left a coating of lace with each sip. Very pleasant aroma of citrus, caramel malt, and a bit of pine. The flavor was again citrus, caramel malt, and some pine, with the citrus being a stronger component than the pine. Not as bitter at the finish as one would expect with a DIPA, which was a plus for me. About the only drawback was the wax dipped ceramic top, which took almost five minutes to finally open.

Amber with an off-white head with hops floating about suspended in the liquid. Aroma of citrus hops, sweet malts and pine. Taste of citrus hops, sweet malts, earthy hops that’s not overly bitter. Mild alcoholic finish that reminds me a bit of paper. Decent but not great.
