I think the problem was that it was a year old and had lost the balancing bitterness and letting the hops degrade into an herbal component in a primarily sweet beer. A bit cloying and musty. Not my cup of tea... Bockyhorsey (2552), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 14, 2007 2006 bottle coutesy of Footy. Dry citrus grapefruit aroma along with some sweet malt. Copper body with good beige head and plenty of lacing. Flavor was dry resiny at first. But the second glass is where as beer warm to room temp a good citrus grapefruit sweet and sugary body texture was present. Not as dry as some IIPA but that was fine for me. Aroma is hops, then plenty of caramel-medium malt. Taste is first some sweet caramel medium malt, slick medium hops-resiny, then the sweet malt comes back. OK/mild carbonation.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 11, 2007 Poured a slightly hazed golden orange color. The aroma was of tart orange juice. The aroma was sweet and thick. The flavor was malty with a hoppy middle and mild-moderate bitterness on the finish. Semi-dry with a medium body. tunneler (113), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 11, 2007 Not all that different from the Sweetgrass IPA on which it is based. For an IIPA, not terribly hoppy or bitter, but does have a bigger body than most IPAs, leading some ’fruity’ flavors given the non-aggressive (relative to style) hops. cathcacr (590), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 1, 2007 This is advertised as "Double," not "Imperial." Same diff. As IIPAs go, it’s tops. Resiny, sticky, smooth, pretty much what you’d expect out of an excellent IIPA. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

Source: Rare Beer Club
Appearance: clear dark copper, wispy beige head, drops of lace,
Aroma: sweet grapefruit aroma with a hint of tangerine,
Flavor: lots of sweet fruity tangerine flavor, low balancing flavoring hops other than the fruity and citrus character, light bitter finish, as it warms the sweetness and bitterness develops a very nice interplay,
Overall: a different iipa in that it’s all about the fruity hop character rather than big bitterness or agressive hops, a nice change

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 16, 2007 Courtesy redlight. Pours a hazy amber color with a small white head. Smells of sweet malts, hops, and some yeasty characters. I was expecting more hops, but it tasted like it had a little age to it, although it was a 2006 vintage. The taste was much the same, the hops were there, but nowhere near at the level of a double IPA. Strong malt presence, with a bittersweet finish, which lingered into the aftertaste. Not a bad beer, but not true to style in my opinion.
