| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 9, 2009 tricked into going to granite city. tried to keep an open mind about the beer, as it’s from a chain restaurant in the mall. This was better than I expected. pours kind of like a guinness. More roasted malt and chocolate than guinness. very creamy. could have been worse. fidelis83 (728), Clinton, Iowa, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 2, 2009 Pours black with a tall, nitro-creamy tan head that has excellent retention. Aroma is roast, toasted nuts, a little coffee and some char. Flavor is about the same with a little more nutty and coffee character. Palate is a little watery and the carbonation has a little better bite than most nitro beers. Overall it’s not bad, pretty much a Guinness clone with a little less charm. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 30, 2009 11/28/2008: Granite City Broad Axe Stout is nitro-induced, os the near black beer is comes with an extremely cream and frothy tan-colored head and silky mouthfeel. The beer is dense, but smooth and has a nice roasty coffee aroma and flavor. It isn’t anything terribly unique or complex, but it goes down quite well nonetheless!
Draught (pint) at Granite City Food & Brewery in Maumee, Ohio. Rating #83 for this beer.

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jul 19, 2009 Tap at Mishawaka location: Basically opaque with a creamy nitro tan head and very good lace. The best part of the brew is it’s appearance sadly. The aroma is very weak with roasted, oats, and chocolate malts, mineral water and charcoal. The taste is just like a Guinness Draft but with even less flavors, malty, mineral, slight plum, chocolate and an ashy dry finish... where are the Fuggles? Soft and creamy nitro mouth feel but alas it is watery and ashy. Whatever, it is not offensive, just not very good either. JPDIPSO (4914), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 9, 2009 Tap, Omaha. Dark brown color with a thin, light beige head. Roasted malt, coffee and hints of caramel and dark chocolate aromas. Thin in feel. Some roasted malt and coffee in the flavors. Seems more like a dunkel than a stout, with the thin body. Drinkable dark brew. hike20 (35), Iowa, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 26, 2009 Draft at Cedar Rapids. With not too many micros to choose from in Iowa, I hate to knock any stout effort too strongly, but there’s just nothing remarkable about this beer. I do drink it fairly often because we frequent this location. Aroma and flavor are somewhat bland. Not unpleasant, just not much of it. bluemooner (237), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 18, 2009 Tap at Maple Grove. Pours a creamy opaque black with a very creamy off-white head which lingers and leaves good lacing. Rather weak aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is a bit thin with roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, and very dry. Body is quite creamy almost fluffy. Decent. BOLTZ7555 (1098), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
