On tap at the Mishawaka location 7/15/09: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a well-lacing froth of white head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty caramel malt and a hint of doughy yeast and some graininess. Starts with decent fullness and a touch of light fruits and grainy caramel before a drier toasty finish. A decent maibock.

From the tap this pours a clear amber body with a dinkus off-white head. It’s got an aroma of caramel , grain, and a mild earthiness. Flavors much the same, but its sweetness seems unchecked. A bit watery, too.

Omaha. Light copper to bronze in color. Smaller off-white head. Toasted malt, earth, caramel and touch of fruit in the aroma. Not a clean lager scent. Flavors start with some sweet malt, then turn a bit grainy and fruity. Seems more like a strong amber.

Draft at S.D. location. Clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Light toasted nutty malt aroma. Light to medium body with a smooth texture. Medium balanced bitter sweet flavor with the same medium finish of average duration.

Draught, GABF 2003. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie, caramel), lightly hoppy (herbs), with light notes of smoke and alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Wasn’t impressed.

Draught sample at the St Louis Park MN location, RBSG Minneapolis weekend, June 23 2007. Clear caramel color with just a bit of quick-dying foam....minimal aroma, faint old grains, caramel, and a bit of vegetables....old stale caramel candies float in thin barely-flavored vegetable gruel, ancient grassy hops and wet cardboard don’t really add to the fun....a watery, unpalatable mess.
