detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 15, 2007 it pours a reddish brown - way too light for a stout, way too red for a brown. And too dark for an amber. Fairly clear beer, topped with less than half an inch of suds. Moderate head retention and lacing. Mild chocolate and alcohol in the nose.
The first sip reminded me of another Granite City beer - the Double Brown. It has the same chocolate and whiskey-like flavor. Unlike the double brown, however, this one isn’t very sweet. Just shy of medium body, good carbonation. PorterPounder (3131), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 22, 2005 On tap at their St. Cloud, Mn. location. Pours a dark ruby red, fading to brown with a thick mocha colored head. Some brief coffee notes in the aroma. Flavor is slightly sweet with some fruity notes. Traces of chocolate, coffee and fruity wine. Lactic feel to the mouthfeel, gives it a somewhat of sticky feel. Overall, a decent stout, not one for the ages, but a good companion to the chocolate cake dessert I came here for.
