detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 15, 2007 Pours a fairly clear amber red, with less than an inch of white foam. Minimal lacing, the head retention is adequate but nothing noteworthy. Mild sweet malt in the aroma, nothing flashy.
More of the same in the flavor, a faintly toasted, mildly sweet malt presense. Tasty enough, but lacking just a bit in body when you toss in a hop bite that, while not quite of Pacific Northwest proportions, is still a bit too much for the malt. Hopping level is closer to that pale/red the barkeep spoke of, but the malt is closer to a Vienna lager. Good carbonation, crisp and clean, and reasonably drinkable.
Now I generally rave about the St Cloud Granite City’s specialty and rotational beers, and find the regular offerings well made but bland. Not this time - this specialty beer is okay, but not enticing. While there’s nothing ’scary’ about this ferris wheel, after riding it for a while you notice its just going around in the same old circle.
