It poured a rich and clear gold colour accompanied by a frothy white head of no more than one finger’s depth. Now for the less than stellar rest of the story. Aroma was not much to remark on, with probably some malt and if GI claims to have ginger in there as well, I’ll have to take their word for it. Taste was much like an amber ale, with mostly hops and malt. I could not discern any ginger. Mouthfeel was tilted to the thin side of the table, sadly. The finish was a bit sweet. All in all, just a garden variety amber ale, with nothing special about it. I’m disappointed in GI as they’ve produced two new limited releases this year and both have been sub-par (the other being the unfortunate Raspberry Wheat creation). Funny thing at the end of this beer was that I swatted a fly away with the back of my hand and it fell into the glass, which still had about two inches of beer remaining, and I didn’t even care about having to pour it down the toilet, fly and all! Just shows how much I cared about this beer. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 31, 2009 Ginger and floral notes with toasty malts in the nose. Clear golden body is topped by a low white head that recedes to a thin but lasting cover with some lacing. Ginger is strong over toasty malts and fruity esters. Ginger is rather overshadowed by cloying sweetness. Could use more pronounced ginger or some bitterness to offset the sweet malts. Medium body is somewhat sticky and watery in texture and this is not at all helped by low carbonation. Tulip glass. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in Mar-09. Smells like very freshly sliced ginger mixed with a little apricot fruit and some straw. Clear, orange brown body with a long-lasting creamy white head, some ginger flakes in the bottom and a bit of lacing on the sides. Sweet ginger flavour without the hotness (reminiscent of Jamaican-style soda without the sting). Medium body. Ginger is blended in quite nicely with an interesting texture, not overpowering if you’re a fan. jerc (3954), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Bottle. Shared by DuctTape. Crisp golden yellow body with a mountainous white head, bits of ginger at the bottom of the glass. Massively gingery aroma, light hints of citrus. Fairly gingery flavour but it does not reach its peak until the aftertaste where it leaves a light gingery burn in the throat, light bitterness. Light orange notes to the flavour. Average plus palate. Ginger is a bit over bearing, nice but not overly repeatable unless you really like ginger. mgermani (865), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 12, 2007 Pours a clear orange with a thick, white head and nice lace. Aroma of ginger and slight hops. Tastes very light, sweet malt base with light hops and smooth ginger - definitely not a late addition. Light almost creamy body. This is better than the St. Paul’s ginger beer that I had, but it’s too sweet. Can’t we find a nice american hop (simcoe?) to go with the ginger to keep this thing better balanced? I had one glass and poured the rest of the bottle.
