Commercial Description:
Porter originated in London England just prior to the industrial revolution. The name was adopted after the porters who worked the docks of London and drank copious amounts of this dark ale to sustain them. As a style of ale, Porter is the predecessor of Stout which was originally called “Stout (or strong) Porter”. Our Porter is a deep brown, almost black, colour with a red tint. It presents coffee—like roasted malt flavours and a dry finish.

Only available in our Granville Island Brewing retail store.

A dark ruby red porter with a thin light moka head. In aroma, light sweet chocolate malt, and light British hops. In mouth, a nice sweetish chocolate and caramel, with good fragrant hops, coffee notes, medium bodied. Bottle tasted Nov. 27, with GRM and friends. Merci Jean-Sébastien.

Oh! From an almost headless begining, the rest of this beer poured out into a very dark brown or darkest of dark amber, although not so dark that when held up to the light that you couldn’t detect some transparency. Aroma was not strong yet one could still discern some pleasing hints of dark chocolate. Taste featured again the chocolate along with perhaps burnt coffee and/or malts. Mouth was above average for a porter, being more robust than expected. Finish had some hoppy "bite". One of GI’s nicer seasonals of late, bettering some of their flops of recent years.

Brought home to GA from recent trip to the Taproom on Granville Island. Very easy to drink. Low ABV, slight caramel flavor. Was expecting more, but this was pretty good.

Bottle shared JoeMcPhee. Thank you. Deep ruby colour. Thin brown head with a clinging lace. Rich syrupy ale. Berries in the flavour. Deliciously made porter. Smooth texture and finish of coffee and malts.

Bottle. Deep brown beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is pretty nice. Sweet chocolatey nose, a bit of herbal character in addition to the aroma. Flavour is sweet with a light cocoa/coffee flavour. It finishes fairly dry with a lingering toastiness.

nice roasty aroma with touches of brown sugar, and some coffee. a smooth creamy mouthfeel, with more roast, and coffee, a nice porter, nothing extraordinary, but solid.

Hearty caramel and walnuts on the nose. Standard porter colour. Cocao, dust, some bitterness and a hint of vanilla in the mouth. Dry up front but some slight give in the throat. I got a little bit of cherry after about 5 mouthfulls...Not bad stuff.

Bottle. Poured a dark brown, nearly opaque color with orange highlights. The head was light brown. There was a distinct metallic aroma reminiscent of the way your hands smell after handling a bunch of coins. There was also some chocolate and a bit of roasty malt. Medium bodied and delicately sweet up front. Dry at the end with accompanying roasty bitterness/acidity. The flavor profile included the likes of cola, chocolate, and burnt malt. Improved somewhat after warming up.
