Commercial Description:
Rich in color with a strong body and a very creamy texture, the Oatmeal Stout is a true beer lover's brew. The slight hop aroma distinguishes this stout from any other. The Oatmeal Stout is robust, full of body and flavor, and topped off with a creamy light brown head.

Pours a leathery brown settles nearly black with slivers of brown coming through the edges. Finger high head of tannish bread thickness that faded kinda fast, almost fizzy, to a thin open haze on top. Lace in sparitic fast dripping strings and spots. Aroma is quite nice, deep and roasty, darkly sweet, dark milk chocolate, cocoa, and coffee are all present and pleasant. Taste has a milder flavor then expecting compared to the smell, but a favorable mixing of roasty dark malts, coffee, and lighter chocolate, the usual tangy sweetness that I like to have in an oatmeal stout really doesn't come through for me, a bit much on the coffee, which isn't bad, just was hoping for that oatmealy sweetness. Hop bitterness adds to some of the finish which finishes with a bittered tangyness mixed with coffee dryness which helped it become a bit more enjoyable. Feel has a pretty empty start, kinda thin but builds nicely of coffee, smoothly calming out and getting close to full over the top, and has a coffee drying with a tangy little roasty finish that lingers. I'm a bit torn with this one, it was close to getting the next lowest number in smell and taste but I became intrigued with its finish and it began to grow on me so I made an exception. Would like to put this up against a couple of my favs, Black Widow & Lk. Superior Sir Duluth or even Slow Elk to see where it fits in. A pretty good oatmeal stout none-the-less.

This brew pours with a black body topped by a thin brown head with little lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet, roasty and malty with very slight notes of coffee and a touch of bitter smokiness. An odd meaty note is also observed. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with a slight roastiness, a touch of coffee and an odd bitterness. The finish is slightly smokey and bitter. Full bodied and smooth.

Attractive aroma, touch of hop perfume as well as some roasted and sweet grain smells. Nice smooth malt flavor, nice tongue coating oatiness, percievable roast charater. Strong chocolate malt character. Very good sweet stout. A touch overcarbonated.

Had this bottled in Stevns Point Wisconsin. Aroma of wheat, slight head, accents of bitter chocolate. Heavy.

the first bottle smelled like dog treats. but the second... smelled like blueberries. a pleasant coffee taste with traces of semi-sweet chocolate and blueberry flavors. it is slightly bitter, with a nice mouthfeel--although it could be a bit thicker. i'd drink this again.

Aroma of coffee and malt. Black and thick with a small head that left a lace. Flavours of bitter coffee, very well done so that you know it is there but is not unpleasant or overpowering. Also some chocolate. A very heavy beer. I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was, I never heard of gray’s. Not so "stout" at 5 and change, but still in the top of its class.

Strong coffee aroma with some sweetness as if cream and sugar were added to your coffee. Taste is of coffee, robust bitterness with some sweetness and chocolate. Not too exotic but a very good midwest Oatmeal stout.

Very dark brown (opaque) with a small tan head. The aroma was pure roasted coffee...chocolate tones crept in as the beer warmed. The flavor was wonderful...near perfect for an oatemal stout...strong roasted coffee with underlying oat and chocolate tones...slightly botter coffe aftertaste. The feel was a little too thin (I think a thick, heftier body would make this one of the best oatmeal stouts!) Very nice session stout.
