The aroma I found was that of toasted raisin bread which, while weak, was not bad. Alcohol came out later when warm. Flavor found thin, black coffee with a light, pruney lift. Drinkable, but not great by any stretch of the imaginaton.

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 4, 2006 Just how does one brew a beer that has no aroma? I thought perhaps I was stuffed up, but frankenkitty confirmed that there was little to be smelled. Pours a watery deep brown with slight ruby highlighting and no head at all. The flavor is an improvement, some roasted barley, a little coffee, a suggestion of chocolate... but a bit thin. Finishes on a rusty, watery note.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 29, 2006 This might be the darkest beer I have ever seen. There is almost no red edges to the glass. There is almost no head at all. Aroma is of sweet malt. Flavor is also malty with coffee being evident as well as some roastiness. Most stouts have a nice zing to them but this one does not. It is actually quite smooth. It was also surprisingly refreshing and clean. ElBorracho (472), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 29, 2006 Bottle. Pours dark and stout like with an off-white head. You can smell the oats in this one, along with roasts, molasses, and coffee. The only negative was an odd ashtray aftertaste. RAYBOY01 (1830), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 26, 2006 Some coffee astringency and a bitter bite upfront...with some residual ashtray notes. Warms up to a more enjoyable stout profile. Somewhat thin in body. I will rereate as a fresher sample becomes available. Much thanks to my buddy El_Borracho for his Northwoods beer run in the midst of his overwhelming personal loss..... thegreenrooster (1829), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2006 Pour is a jet black with no head at all. Aroma is roasty and chocolaty. Flavor is more of the same but with an coffee bittness and comes through in the end. Finishes slightly watery with a thin body. An ok rep of the style a bit more thickness would put this one over the top. JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 11, 2006 Pours a very dark brownish-black with light tan head. Strong aromas of chocolate, malt and coffee. Flavor follows aroma, but is more subdued. Thinner body for a stout - which brought it down a little, but quite good overall. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 19, 2006 Bottle. Poured a very deep mahogany, almost black with a quickly-receding beige head. Big, sweet aroma of chocolate, lactic notes, and coffee. Flavor picked up pretty much the same stuff, but with a lower intensity... Rather light on the palate, with a bitter roasted coffee finish. Smooth and easy drinkin’, but wish it had a little more body.
