Ungstrup (11343), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 27, 2008 GABF 2007. A pitch black beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt as well as a light touch of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and roasted coffee beans. fordest (1759), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Dec 6, 2007 GABF. NIce black pour with decent head. Roasty aromas and flavors. Chocolate and some coffee flavors. Pretty good. coldbrewky (502), Saugerties, New York, USA Oct 19, 2007 Hand bottled at the brewpub and deliveed to me by my loving wife...who doesn’t even drink beer. Deep mocha head dimisnishes to stringy carbonation. Morse code lacing is patchy and makes its way back into the brew.Brown/black in the glass. Not much light if any getting thru this puppy. Bitter malts hit you first witha bit of lasting astringency. Moves along to creamy chocolate punchand then to a crisp smoliness that blends wellwith the hop kick for a finish. Medium body could have a bit more too it nd this would be a fantastic brew. Nice hopson (497), Williamsville, New York, USA Sep 24, 2007 I found this flavor to be more of the smoked variety than roasted. That said, loved the creamy moutfeel and bold taste of this stout. Great robust flavor profile. muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Oct 29, 2001 You would think that a tourist town like Lake Placid would be full of nothing but sports bars, fudge shops and overpriced bistros; and you’d almost be right. LP also tries for a very European (mostly German) ambience, and so this fine brewpub. Excellent food, and decent beer as well. This stout has good chocolaty characteristics throughout, from a dark, creamy head, nice (but weak) nose, to the body; unfortunately its derailed by an extremely high level of hops (for the style) and somewhat watery character and overall weakness (only 4.5 % abv). You could do worse, but if I go back I’ll be checking out other beers before returning to this one.
