Dark mahogany with a modest beige head, nonetheless leaves an abundant, sticky lace. Roasty aroma, a bit of aniseed, but overall faint on the nose. Flavor leads with the roasty, again licorice-like, and moves more towards caramelized malts, fig, raisins, cherry pits. Flavorful, but the roast and the sweeter malts clashed a bit for me, and there was a rubbery note and the finish. Medium to full body, only gently carbonated.

(Draught) Pours a lightly hazy amber body with a medium-sized beige head. Aroma of toasted grain, nuts, and caramel. Flavor of raisins, toasted grain, and caramel malt with a dry finish.

Sampled on draught: Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a small to medium sized beige head. Aroma is nutty, caramel, oak and black licorice on the nose. Mouthfeel is light, but creamy. Slightly yeasty, flavors of coffee, hot buttered rum, cinnamon and pepper.

Draft at Great Dane (downtown). Poured a hazy orange brown color. The head was off white and left some nice lace on the glass. Smelled of subdued banana with a dash of brown sugar and a whiff of caramel. Medium bodied and sweeter than expected. Pear, a splash of alcohol, cotton candy, and clove supported the dominant banana muffin-ish flavor. Not bad, but a touch too sweet for me.

Copper color with a small tight bubbled beige head. Apples and blackberries dominate the aroma. Very light and airy in feel. Phenols and caramel mid quaff, with bananas and light spice. Perhaps a touch thin, but quite drinkable.

From a big goblet. Nearly clear reddish brown with small off-white head. Big fruity bubble gum and spice aroma. Thick, syrupy body; fruity, yeasty, bready bubble gum flavor. Way too sweet -- I liked the malt, but this was just too heavy and candy-ish. As jewedekind said, this beer lacks bite.

This 2006 version is a good one. Had a thin but effervescent head, nose of cardamon and allspice. Clear red-brown. Very malty with a definite chocolate charater. Nice full body and a delight on the palate. Close to a Chimay Blue, but lacking a bit of yeast bite.
