No head left by the time I got to tasting it, but I’m sure based on the other ratings that it did have one when it was poured. Chocolate and bourbon aromas, sweet and roasty. Dark chocolate flavor. A little winey on the palate. Good, and probably even better had I not let it sit so long before tasting. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

Heavy aroma and taste of darkly roasted coffee and chocolate. Flavor is dusty, earthy. Seems too thin to me, but still is quite good. PorterPounder (3137), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 25, 2005 Had on tap at the brewpub in downtown Madison. Pours black as coal with a thick, frothy, mocha colored head with good lacing. Pleanty of bittersweet chocolate and coffee to go around. Subtle oiliness makes its way in to the background and finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Excellent brewub porter. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 5, 2005 Dark black, opaque. Shifty amoeba, tan head. Aroma contains some bitterness, dark chocolate and rich milk chocolate, and some cocoa powder. Flavor is a rich mocha cappuccino. Nice full-bodied rendition. Creamy, smooth. Like Dove dark chocolate, an impressive chocolate decadence is achieved with this one. French roasted coffee aftertaste. Right on target. heemer77 (4303), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 25, 2005 This really is black with no light coming through. The head is a light yellow and tan. The aroma is coffee with dirt and a hint of chocolate. The taste is coffee and cream with some tobacco. The mouthfeel is medium and sticky. A nice porter. jkane (21), USA

I go for this beer third when enjoying beverages at the Great Dane. It’s a nice beer to drink 2 or 3 of before getting bored with it. Ughsmash (4022), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 6, 2005 This beer poured black with a brownish tint if held directly in front of a light. Medium caramel head that had excellent retention. Head appeared similar to a cappuccino, and looked very appetizing. Flavor was a well-balanced blend of coffee, chocolate, and caramel, and the beer had a pleasant coating mouthfeel. Aftertaste was just as good! I would certainly recommend this one. barleyandmalt (25), USA
