Wasn’t expecting much with this tap from an airport restaurant. However, just the fact that they had a scotch ale was enough for me. The 22 oz. was just the right size as the aroma and appearance gave me cause to repeatedly indulge in a swig. Unfortunately, the flavor was just average, despite a definite presence of whiskey and malty caramel. Overall, worth a try, especially if you’re found captive in the airport.

Amber with thin tan head. Light aroma of sweet malts and caramel. Taste was sweet of caramel and sugar and semi-sticky.

Wasn’t too impressed with this scotch ale. Literally made my face pucker up and cringe as the cloyingly sweet taste just made me sick. One of the few times I have left a beer unfinished

From a firkin. I suspected it would be a bad idea to always have a firkin on and this confirmed that, in my opinion. The body was a very cloudy dark amber that I could not see through. There was a thick khaki head on top. The aroam was apples and leather with some good soap and tobacco. The taste was smoked apple chips with nasty caramel. Way too sweet .

Cask at the brewpub (downtown location). Poured a slightly hazy dark orange-red. Head was clingy, off white, and left some lace behind. Distinctly nutty and chocolatey aroma. Smooth mouth feel. Sweet on the tongue with brown sugar, subdued peated malt, mixed nuts, and alcohol flavors. The alcohol was almost bourbon-ish. Decent beer.

On tap at the Great Dane Brew Pub (Downtown Madison Location). Poured a deeper orangish color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of caramel, toasted malts, earthy, and toffee.

Chicago Trip. Sunday 20:34+. Sample tray on cask. Very dark. Hints of burgundy when held to the light. Earthy malt aroma and hops. Have peat...add water. Very malty.
