JPDIPSO (4862), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Jan 3, 2005 Near black with a light tan head. Dark cherry and roasted malts in the aroma. A touch of acidity noted. Flavors of mocha, bitter dark chocolate and cherries. Perhaps a bit like a lactic stout with some cough medicine. A one and done type brew. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Dec 24, 2004 Served as "Cherry Cream Stout". Sweet creamy cherry nose with milk chocolate underneath. Pretty similar flavor - big sweet cherry on top of sweet chocolate. A simplistic but very tasty sweet stout. Coffee in the finish. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA Dec 8, 2004 On tap at brewery...Was not called "Cherry Isthmus" but I’ll put it here. An attractive garnet hue in an almost black beer. Not a great head, that detracts. Cherry essence in the nose, with some sweet malt. Cherries are evident and the taste was just a bit on the artificial side, with a bit of an aftertase. I would have preferred a stronger stout character, but it works pretty well for a Holiday brew. GermanBrews76 (667), Eugene, Oregon, USA Jan 13, 2003 Cherry colored dust head. Deep ruby hues around the edges of an otherwise black brew. Smells like a chocolate covered cherry. Unfortunately the stuot part doesn"t hold up its end of the bargain the way it aught to. Thin and watery. Needs more body and a better malt presence. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Dec 27, 2002 The clever name is the only thing worth remembering about this godawful abomination of a stout. Absolutely no cherry aroma or flavor that I could detect, soapy flavor, very weak and watery. I asked the waitress if it could be off, and she said it was her favorite with a look as if to imply that I was crazy. As the other beers were fine and I was in a hurry, I didn’t press her, and so this drain pour. Couldn’t finish my 4 oz sample, first time I’ve ever done that.
