GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Feb 18, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Clear orange brown color. Head was off white with good retention and lacing. Aroma was of coffee and a hint of dark chocolate. Flavor was similar, but I also sensed an occasional rubbery note that detracted somewhat. Body was on the lighter end of the spectrum. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Feb 15, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber with a 1/2 finger brown head. Aroma of fresh sweet coffee grounds and a bit of smoke. Flavor was fresh sweet coffee again, some Scotch ale qualities (a bit of smoke and light roasty malts), the coffee tends to cover up a lot f the flavors but there was a little ash in there as well. High carbonation, medium bodied. For what it was supposed to be, it was pretty good. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Feb 12, 2007 10th Annual Mid*Winter Brewfest. Pours to a light brassy mahogany body with a frothy white head. The aroma is vibrant with fresh brewed coffee. Its nice that its not dominated by roasted malts. The flavor is also standoutish with coffee. Also a delight that its not dominated by roasted dark malts. The palate is silken smooth and quite refreshing. I could drink gallons of this beer. I did go back 2 or 3 times to sample more of this and had well over a pint. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA Dec 31, 2006 This 2006 version is much richer, walnut-brown in color with a nice off-white head that laces well. Nose is full espresso or maybe Major Dickason’s Blend. Aroma is big on the dark roasted coffee, smoky, woody, but clean with some late bittersweet chocolate. Some late notes of cigarettes round out the experience. The best coffee beer I’ve tried (out of three). JPDIPSO (4862), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Sep 26, 2003 Light copper color with a tight off white head. Pure fresh brewed coffee aroma with a light undertone of malt. Although I am not a big coffee brew lover, this has the best aroma of any coffee brew I've ever had. Mild coffee flavor with a light backbone of malt. Decent bitterness developed from the coffee.
