Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Aug 11, 2008 Amber red with an off white head. Cherry aroma. Flavor is cherry wood and marachino(?). It is lightly bitter, creamy, and smooth. Well balanced. pepsican (884), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Aug 8, 2008 Amber pour with a very small white head . Sour cherry and caramel aroma. Cherry and caramel flavor, some nail polish. Finishes thin, light acidity. badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Jul 5, 2008 Poured a nice ruby red, but had little head, and no retention. Smell was of cherries, but it was light and reminded me of a cherry pop. Taste was pretty watery, but did have some cherry presence, just wasn’t my taste. Mouthfeel was incredibly light, high carbonation. Not so good for drinkability. I think this is one of the few misses coming from this brewpub, they’ve got excellant service, great food and grog to boot, but this one misses the mark. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA Aug 27, 2006 Looks nice an cherry-ish in the glass. Ruby colored with a thin fizz. No fruit in the nose. Really not much in the glass either. Thin with only a hint of fruit. Tastes like the light with some cherry. Would’ve like to seen this beer built around a more substantial base - like the Helles or Peck’s Belgian Red this ain’t! TheEnemy (422), Chicago, USA Jul 17, 2006 On tap at the downtown brewpub. Pours an opaque dark reddish brown with 1finger worth of pinkish-tan tightly-packed head. Aroma is of dry grains and dried tart cherries with a slight metallic tinge. Flavor is a tightly integrated combination of dry, lightly toasted grain, tart and slightly sweet cherries and light grassy hops. Cherry flavor is very natural rather than candy-like as in some other cherry beers. Medium body and palate; goes down smooth and works well as a summer refresher. Kudos to the Dane for resisting the urge to overdo the cherry aspect, thus preventing this from becoming a Bells-Cherry-Ale-like disaster. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 16, 2006 On tap downtown. Clear, deep mahogany pour with just a ring of white head. Nose was like a cherry pie... without being too sweet or too tart... very good stuff. Flavor was also full of fresh cherries.. with a bready pale malt base. There was a mild cherry/wheaty tartness around the tongue. Smooth and creamy on the palate and lighter-bodied. Tasty and very well done! 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Jul 16, 2006 Tap at downtown location. The beer pours to a chestnut brown body with a creamy and thin white head. The flavor is a deep fresh bing cherry. Crisp and fruity. Very much like eating bing cherries. The aroma is sweet bing cherries and light pale malt. The palate had a certain tartness to it. Nice mouthfeel. Creamy and delicious.
