A session type brew. Nothing exciting, but certainly would get on your nerves after a run with it. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA

Very dark umber admits just a smidgeon of light; caramel and a bit of wood in the nose; watery texture does not totally undo dark, smoky malty character. Blackberries, currants, cowboy coffee: complex and really interesting flavors alas damaged irreperably by thinness. Still, I’m getting closer to liking milds. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 6, 2005 Served out of a cask at the Madison location. Poured a medium brown with little discernable head. Very pleasant aroma, consisting of fruit (grapes & apples) and a little caramel. Beer is light bodied, and seemed to be missing a little carbonation (I know it was cask-conditioned, but I believe that I caught the bottom of a barrel). Hop flavor was pleasant, but sweet malt was a little stronger. Decent beer, and I appreciate the effort of attempting this style and presentation from Great Dane! badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 18, 2005 Cask. Dark red color with no head. A hint of orange for the nose. Little bits of malt in the taste with a floral finish. Creamy. A good and tasty session beer. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2007 Cask at the brewpub. Poured a dark brown color with ruby red shining through. Head was thin and soapy as you’d expect coming from a cask. Aroma was of distinct caramel and butterscotch. Slightly sweet on the tongue with carbonation on the low end, again, as expected. Tasted of roasted nuts accented by a bit of caramel and toffee. Pretty good. notalush (2690), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 23, 2008 Dark brown/ruby hued beer - nitro-pour creamy head - a really flavorful combination of roasted malt, doughy character, and light hints of black cherry - a little diacetyl on the back makes it slightly less enjoyable, but this is quality stuff. 1FastSTi (2580), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 26, 2005 cask at great dane downtown. I thought the flavor was metallic. Definitely weak carbonation. boring and pointless. not a good brew from Great Dane. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Sampled on cask: Poured a dark dark brown with no head. Aroma is pretty malty- chocolate and faint hops on the nose. Taste is super disapointing. Metallicy, thin and watery in the finish- it left an awful gritty taste on my mouth, definately something i won’t be having for a while.
