Commercial Description:
Based on our most award-winning beer, Denver Pale Ale, this copper-hued treat is a celebration of everything Great Divide does best. Plenty of malty sweetness provides a backdrop for earthy, floral English and American hops, while French and American oak round off the edges and provide a touch of vanilla. Thanks to everyone who’s supported us for the last 15 years - here’s to 15 more!

Sampled in a 22oz. A really nice brew. Crisp yet complex at the same time. Drinks smoothly. Lots of malts and hops. Pours dark and thin head. NIce brew.

Pours a mostly translucent golden orange with a smaller bubbly white head. Aroma of pine, light woody notes, some pineapple, mixed citrus, caramel, toasted malt, malty sweet. Flavor of sweet toasted malt, caramel, light oak and vanilla, some pine and mixed citrus hops.

22oz bottle. Pours a lightly hazed deep sunset red with a good sized beige head that left some nice lacing. "Nice oaky nice, herbal friends", I seriously wrote that in my notes, I swear to God! Sweet oak and dried citrus on the nose, a lot of sweet malts in the back ground as well. Flavor was full of caramel, sweet oak, and wet grassy hops. An interesting brew, nothing I would call worthy of an "anniversary ale".

(22oz bottle, courtesy of Kevin) Pours a golden body with a small white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, cedar, caramel, and vanilla. Flavor of hops (citrus, pine, earth), wood, and light vanilla with a bitter finish.

Bomber into an imperial pint glass. The pour is orangey-red with a huge and lasting off-white head. The aroma is big oak - fresh 2X4 mixed with vanilla beans and a hint of soapy malt. The flavor is sweet a bit at first followed by a hoppy dryness that reminds almost of burnt meat. Medium carbonation and a thickish creamy body.

Had in Atlanta. Big time hops here. Amber pour, lots of resinous hops hit the nose with some woody notes and caramel malt. Flavor is very hoppy with some balance offered by a bit of malt and wood. Interesting. Well done.

(bottle) nice deep amber color with small quickly fading head. Aroma is pine and smoked oak, some malt sweetness. Flavor is overwhelmed by the wood unfortunately; a little vanilla and pine hops in there as well, but too unbalanced for me.

My Bottom Line:
This Barrel-Aged Double IPA blends oaken vanilla flavors to caramelized cereals and earthy hops and their bitterness, sculpting a pleasant sugary evening sipper.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy veil of foam settles atop the dark amber with golden highlights.
-Alcohol is discreet, even though the barrel presence is not.
-The sweet cereals are also full of honeyed flavors.
-The wooden character works well with the green and earthy hop bitterness.
-The body was rather heavy, which decreased drinkability.
-Orangey fruitiness comes from the hop selection.

Bottle.
