Commercial Description:
Based on our most award-winning beer, Denver Pale Ale, this copper-hued treat is a celebration of everything Great Divide does best. Plenty of malty sweetness provides a backdrop for earthy, floral English and American hops, while French and American oak round off the edges and provide a touch of vanilla. Thanks to everyone who’s supported us for the last 15 years - here’s to 15 more!

Smoky, beefy aroma. Clear, brilliant deep amber color under a tan head. Flavor is oak, bitterness, and smoke. Texture is crisp, thick, and warming. Some sourness. Overall, exactly as the label conveys. Cheers to Great Divide.

On tap at the Springhurst Liquor Barn. Pours amber with a mostly receding tan head. Aroma of oak, wood, mild grapefruit and cheesy hops. Notes of oak, citrus, toffee, dates, brown sugar and vanilla. Full bodied with lively carbonation.

Pours a translucent copper amber with a one finger yellow head. The nose is woody, shows significant oak, resinous hop character, grapefruit rind, spicy. Flavor is sharp and tannic, bitter, warming alcohol, grapefruit rind, resinous hop flavor, prominent barrel character. Strong in not the best way.

pours a clear dark amber with a red tint, a small white head, and great lacing. smell is of light grapefruit, caramel, roasted nuts, and some woodiness in the back. taste is creamy, hops, some sour malt, a little dandelion, and some pine, ends a little dry and bitter.

Probably the least hoppy FIPA I’ve had. Pours a deep copper color with a thin white head. Aroma is malt, dark fruit, caramel, a lot of sweet notes. Flavor is slightly vegetal with a lot of malt sweetness. really not much in the way of hop character, more vanilla and woody. Interesting, but not what I was expecting from the style.

22 oz – The Wine Source. Dark coppery amber, thin off-white creamy head. Bold citric-wood and piney vanilla aromas ride soft layers of toffee malts and hints of earthy bourbon from start to finish. Deep citric hop flavors balance well on notes of a toasted caramel and vanilla-oak sawdust. Warming soft swirls of booze emerge at room temp. Full bodied, medium carbonation, bittersweet finish. The wood gave me wood...

Appearance: Pours a dark, opaque amber with a gathering of froth at the top. Aroma: Dried apricot, oranges, tangerine, caramel, honey and cantaloupe. Taste: The exact same wood characteristic found in Oak Aged Yeti. A strong wood characteristic, almost medicinal for sure. After the wood blast, I find caramel and bitter hops and a little bit of fruitiness. Finishes sweet and woody. All these flavors come together nice, and almost bring a bourbon note to the beer. Mouthfeel: Thick and syrupy. Overall: Fantastic and complex. Wood aged Double IPA’s are so far different from fresh Double IPAs, and border line characteristics of a a well made hoppy barleywine.

7/30/2009: Great Divide 15th Anniversary Wood Aged Double IPA... Aroma: Carmelized sugar, cooked pineapple, quite sugary and fruity. Appearance: Deep orange color, mostly clear; large foamy beige head. Flavor: Pineapple upside-down cake in my mouth! Hard orange candy, yellow cake sweetness. Palate: Medium to medium-full, pretty smooth. Overall: Pretty tasty, but I WANT MORE BITTERNESS! There is just too much malt...
